I f**king hate them.

Lemme just say this all happened when the bike was only running on 2 cylinders and was going nowhere. But the bike is now fixed.

My garage is like 1 min away from my house? I walk down to the garage, start her up to do some tuning and trouble shooting (cables, idle, electrics etc...) to try and find out why the bike is only running on 2 cylinders, and then I get is some old woman keep coming out and asking me to turn my bike off and stop revving it when it's just sitting there on idle with lil blips now and then from me. This woman lives like 6 houses down the road ffs!

Now... She said to me "Can't you do that in your own area?" I said to her "How the fook can I when the bike doesn't even move and my house is up the road?" she then said to me "Well we'll see what the council has to say about this!" I basically told her to go sit on it, only because I know the bike is completely legal in noise wise (exhaust).
Bare in mind, I'm doing my own mechanics on my own bike in my own garage during the day at like 2pm till around dinner time. I was told all noise out on the streets have to be stopped by 11pm till 7am?

Question is, what can she really do about the noise? am I really doing any harm? why is it only her complaining? how can I reduce the noise level of my road legal exhaust? and whats the worst that can happen?

Thanks

No if she come up again talking bollocks tell her to swivel you payed for it. The exhaust isnt illegal and mechanics do it all the time.

If she keep moaning tell you will get her done for harassment (i know it sounds stupid but i suppose its the same kind of bs she is talking and may buy it.)

Edit: its no more annoying than using a lawnmower and i can't see it being illegal and as if police have time to follow up this kind of crap anyway.

Let her rant and rave, the council won't do anything and even if they did send a guy out. I bet he says its thats stupid old bat from up there again..... Then just walk away.....

Main thing is don't lose you rag and start shouting and swearing at em....
Just say. i'll be as quick as i can, but if i can't get it fixed now, i'll have to come back tonite to do it.

If you really want to annoy her rev its tits off while looking at her and cupping hand round ear shouting you wat ???? Let revs drop to idle and say Oh did you say would i like tea or coffee Laughing

I basically told her to go stick it in a nice way Razz

But yeah... revving the tits out of my bike while she's talking sounds like a very pleasant idea Twisted Evil

I'm just a lil worried about losing the garage, or even my baby ninja Sad

there's nothing she can do. just be polite to her, if she takes a shine to you she then might just leave you alone when she sees your not a threat.

Similar thing happened to me one night.

I went to pick up my girlfriend at her friends house at 11pm. It's winter, and its freezing outside.

I'm in my fiesta. so i park up, and let the car idle, so i can let the car warm up and let the heating warm up. my friends neighbour yells at me from the window telling me to switch the car off cos its making too much noise! she tries telling me im a cheeky monkey and she's going to call the police because I'm disturbing the peace... i just ignored her after a while and wound up my window and waited for my friend to come out.i was only waiting for 20min.

Damn fiesta HCS engines...

also a similar thing with my next door neighbour who just moved in...

we've been living at our house for over 9years. my friend leaves us his yamaha SR for my dad to work on the next day on sunday.
around 10am dad starts it up and revs it a little bit. the neighbour opens his door and says 'do you need to make so much noise?switch it off!!! its a damn sunday!'. the cheek of him.

I've done this though, some twat in a diesel Vectra was sat outside my house at 8am on a Sunday with his engine idling. Being a diesel it was at just the wrong pitch for me and it woke me up then annoyed the crap out of me for a further ten minutes.

In the end I went out and told him to turn it off, there's no reason to have a car idling unless it's frozen and needs de-icing, in which case I would understand.

In the case of your bike though, I would be polite, as others have said, and just explain that you'll be as quick as you can and you'll be even quicker if she lets you get on with it Mr. Green Unless you have a silly loud can (like I do Embarassed ) then you'll be fine.

Cheers

Grim

An innocent, respectable person doing something that annoys one person.

You'll get an asbo and a hefty fine I expect.

If you were on benefits and were sporting stupid clothes with a flat peak I doubt she would have said anything, but even if she had you could have just shanked her and gone on your way without fear of repercussions.

Thing is, she's come out twice now telling me to keep the noise down, I'm just a lil worried that If I start playing again she'll do something on the third complaint.

Also, will having the arse end of the bike out of the garage make the bike less noiser?

I'm only starting the bike up every other day to keep her running sweet as I can't ride her yet.

Fuck her off. i used to worry whatmy neighbours thought and was always being nice. Then when they got what they wanted they became the biggest shits known to man. Be as abusive as you like , but first report her for being abusive, make up a load of crapabout her and what she has been upto so that you are the victim and her the agresser.each time she comes out mate a note and report her. then you can do what you want. anyway she could drop dead in the morning so who cares.

I know exactly what you mean, I had just started renting out my garage and within 3 days an old bloke came up to me and said that he has had some complaints about the noise i am making. FFS i was trying to fix my bike. And i hadnt even rev'd it up at all. So i apologised and told him it was just until i get my bike fixed. He seemed content and walked off. Then i stubbied my can and im embarressed to go anywhere near the garage now as its so loud.
Mr. Green Thumbs Up

But i was speaking to him today and there was no troubles, asking me how it was going etc. Just be nice to her. Just say you are sorry and that you need the bike for work etc. Offer her some of your old earplugs. Thumbs Up

I reckon, get everyone to come down to your garage with their projects, broken bikes etc. and everyone can have a day at your garage repair them, revving them etc.

Then in the evening when youve all packed up and go home, and the old bat has finally calmed down in front of coronation street with a cupper, everyone from the forum meets at the garage for a twilight bike meet / ride, and everyone does burn outs, one by one so theres lots of noise and smoke and make it last a good hour or so and bring her to the point of smashing her head in.

As I doubt she will come out and shout if theres 50 people there Thumbs Up

Break down and have your bike recovered to your garage late at night.

Worked for me when I had neighbour trouble at my mates.

Go to her house late in the evening and ask her to keep the noise down and that you can hear her telly from your house Thumbs Up

The break down one is good, got a guy who works as a recovery mechanic on 24 hour call out who lives a few doors away, parks his pick up truck in front of the green over the road from my house.

The noise that damn truck makes, and those flashy lights, its horrible in the middle of the night, at least he appreciates that fact and turns it all off as quickly as possible when he arrives home or when hes getting ready to leave.

Bum her in the garage next time around and if she enjoys it, she will shut up and let you carry on with your work. The old people downstairs actually come out and are mildly enthusiastic when i tinker about with my bike - especially after they knew that i crashed it. They let me get on with it, including fitting the silly loud exhaust at 8PM and letting it run so that i can find the loose joint where it was blowing. Unless they come to me specifically, all i can do is apologise to be honest and tell them it's a one off ( i don't exactly loiter about when starting my bike up though) - unfortunately the old dear that lived beside where i parked my bike has died.

The old dude who has the house next door to my lockup came out and told me he liked the sound of that one best as he pointed to my KLE with the Laser Deeptone system on it (nae baffles at all).

EDIT: You should "Pardon.. I heard you the first time!" her.

When she comes out for a rant, wait for her to finish and say "Pardon?". After she's finished repeating herself (and she will, she wont be able to help herself) summon up every possible ounce of sarcasm and arrogance you can muster and say "I heard you the first time!".

You will get a stunned silence, she will go white, then red, then purple then she will either start screaming at you like a demented fishwife or burst a blood vessel. You then need to stand there looking like a picture of innocence as all your neighbours come out to see what the screaming and shouting is about.

This leaves you looking like the injured party and her looking like a derranged lunatic.

Really, if you aren't a class 1 tit it takes a second to get old people on your side.

My next door old girl must be 70, she came out one time to moan and i got her to sit on the trike and pres the buttons. Now when I am working outside she comes out with tea, sits on the trike and chats, I love it, she watches my place all the time now!

Nah just keep doin as you're doin I reckon and remain polite.
There is really no need to get abusive or retaliate. You're within your rights to fix your bike in the middle of the day if you so choose.

I also agree that you should just inform her of the situation with the bike and why you're running it while you're there.

At the end of the day don't take her shit but you shouldn't feel the need to be an ass about it either Thumbs Up

Regardless of the exhaust you are correct. You are in your own garage, which is private property, at a reasonable time of day.

Should she go t te council, their reply should be 'Oh.....really......leave it with us'. End of.

They should have bigger fish to fry, so were led to beleive anyway!

I know what u mean....we have our own "looney tunes" living NEXT door so I can't even escape.
They made up this random story that me and the BF were chucking eggs at their window and front garden...so we had a visit from the PoPo and luckily just got a slap on the wrist since, in his words "i don't think they are all there in the head *wink wink*".

BF and I haven't even got our bikes yet.......but i'm sure the police will be frequent guests. 2 bikes 7 days a week will drive them NUTS....mwahahahhaha

Tho in saying, best thing is remain calm and polite. She is afterall a neighbour....and its always best to keep the peace. She might be an evil witch and turn the street against you. It's not about getting petitioned out!!

I WAS thinking of sending round a box of ferrero roches around to the "loony tunes" as a xmas-lets-try-to-get-along gift. I ate them all before wrapping up the babies - oops my bad!!

Could always try to get her to call the police, and get her to do it continuously, provided you dont work on your bike in the evening or very early in the morning you wont have a problem.

If she keeps calling the police, she may even get done for wasting police time if shes as looney as she sounds.

Some asshole once told me and my cousin he would be petitioning to have all motorcycles banned as we were stopped up and idling on a street corner while my cousin was having a cigarette, we asked him why and his reply was "because motorbikes are so fucking noisy and the people that ride them are complete twats". The bikes were literally idling! Shocked and he found them noisy? after holding my cousin back from swinging at the blokes face (he tends to get quite hot-headed quickly) we decided a suitable thing to do was to ride our Aprilia RS125's red-lined up and down the road for a short while afterwards. The look of disgust on his face was one I will never forget...

P.S I wonder how he'd feel if I returned with the 400 for a while...
