My boy has just rang me saying his mobo is shot, he said he turned it on worked for a 10mins made a squealing noise and went dead... he said he has changed power supply and ram with no joy. I bought a bundle system from novatech for crimbo so only a few weeks old. its a duel core running vista,

any tests I can do to verify that the mobo is broke before contacting novatech?

What does the system do at the mo? does it boot at all?

Eliminate each component one at a time. What kind of Hard drive do you have? If you got to the manufacturers site then there is normally a diagnostic tool that can be run from DOS. Also double check the RAM with memtest. Have you an old graphics card to swap to eliminate that? Disconect DVD drive and any other devices that are not required to run the PC to see if it makes any difference.

It does sound like the mobo, although could also be CPU. Without another CPU that you can try in the board you might not be able to say which is buggered.
