In dire need of help.
At the moment im watching my life go down the shitter. I was at one of the top schools in the country, but ended up leaving because im a lazy fuck.
If im honest the college I'm doing my A levels in is shit, sure they get a few bright people there, but its mostly filled with retarded mongs who slow the class down.
I was predicted all A's for my GCSE's but got mostly B's because I'm a lazy ass and now im predicted B's for my A levels, which im quite suprised with because I hardly attend class.
So the point of this thread is, has anyone got any tips on how to get motivated and time management.
I need to get at least B's in the sub's im doing but realisticly want A's. (Im doing maths, chem, physics and Bio)
I'm not finding the corse hard at all, its just i can never be assed to turn up to class. Also I'm a bit concerned about how much work I'm getting, all my mates are talking about their heavy work load, when in reality mine would be pretty much nothing if i attended all classes.
I constantly talk about how I'm going to get everything sorted out and never do, I think my major problem is, that I don't like doing a half assed job, but leave my self no time to do the perfect job, so end up saying fuck it and dont do anything.
Thanks to anyone who bothers to read through my rambled post and offers advice. Thumbs Up

Having a similar sort of problem, and to be honest you sound rather like me. Intelligent but too lazy to care.

I was predicted fairly low grades at A level because I too didn't go to enough classes. I ended up with 3 Cs and the resounding cry from the repoort was that I'd have done a hell of a lot better if I'd applied myself a bit more.

Now I'm at uni and repeating my first year, because I didn't like the course I was on last year. But the fact is like it or not I was still too lazy to go to the classes.

Just today I got the first essay I've written at uni so far back. I'd also like to note that I haven't exactly been applying myself to my new course either, and the essay that was handed in was done on the back of whizzing through the lecture notes in half an hour, referencing 4 textbooks, and tapping it out, all in about 5 hours. Anyway, I got that essay back today and I got a 1st. Nice big row of ticks, all in the 1 column. Got me thinking; I can't go on passing stuff without putting the work in, because it's going to get a whole lot harder as I move up the ladder. I didn't work during my SATs and got very good results. I didn't work during my GCSEs and a got fairly good results. I didn't work during my A-levels and I got average results. Now I'm at uni and you can't pass a course without attending, so I'll fail without working.

As it turns out, being naturally clever only gets you so far, the organised, hard-working ones start to leap ahead, even if they're not as clever. I happen to know a few people who are both, and they're the really, really successful ones.

What I said doesn't really provide an answer, just maybe helped you see things in perspective. So I'll say that it was a great feeling getting that good a mark on an essay a lot of people have worked a lot harder for, and gotten lower marks. So I figure maybe I should enjoy that feeling a bit more and make sure I do well. That's what I'm trying to do to motivate me, maybe you can. Karma

go work in mc'ds for a bit should motivate you enough to care a bit more, as said all things come to those who put time and effort into things.

Sounds to me like you're just finding out more about yourself as you’re getting older.

I was predicted lower grades in GCSE, I got some decent grades. I wanted to carry on education so I didn’t have to work so I chose A levels. Did my A levels and got myself a job, I’m still in the same field now and very glad I got out of education when I did because course work, sucks ass.
I cruised through to be honest, I didn’t push myself, and I didn’t let it get to on top. It’s the sort of person I am, and I accepted that. I know I could have got better grades if my 100% was there but in the end I realised that wasn’t me.

Just cause you went to a top school, doesn't mean you was destined to be clever.

I went to a bog standard comprehensive, was a lazy feck, did no revision whatsoever and still got A's and B's.

Nobody can teach you motivation, for motivation you need a goal in life.

My degree was seriously going to suffer from lack of motivation until I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and a serious career prospect.

Can't agree with that one enough, it really puts into perspective how shit a job can be, made me sort myself out a bit.

When I was doing my A levels I sorta lost interest in doing them round about the time I was stuck in the middle of my parents going through some shit. I decided I couldn't be bothered with anything any more so I started to stop showing up to classes, hardly did any work at home, and my predicted grades dropped massivly.

In the end the only reason I pulled it together because I wanted to go to uni and get to move out and be independant for a while. The way I found that worked for me was to go to bed before 11 even if I knew I wasn't going to sleep, I soon started to fall into the pattern for sleeping right, which helped me get to classes, and I did all other work I needed to straight after I got in so I had the rest of the day to piss about. Came out with an A in maths and a B in geography so it kinda worked (by the end of the year was predicted C's in both).

You just gotta make yourself do it or you'll end up doing it again later in life, and well you may as well just do it now lifes easier that way.

Well all them bits of paper with A & B's on mean not a lot to a lot of employers.
Most are looking at the person in front of them and how you are portraying yourself to them.

Get out in the real world, show a employer that you have the get up and go that they need. Thumbs Up

Of course thats if you know what you want to do, or do you fancy just bumming Shocked along for the next few years at collage and uni running up masses of debt and still have no idea what you want to do when you finish. Rolling Eyes Karma

Only you can motivate yourself, just think... How do you want to spend the rest of your life ? Working in a dead end job till you retire at 65 and then struggle to live, or get a good career going and retire at 50 to enjoy the rest of your life Very Happy

Agreed.
There are so many graduates out there in the job market now employers can take their pick.

Experience is key. Which is, unfortunately, a bit of a catch-22.

You have to try and think longer term and start on the bottom rung of the ladder at relatively low pay to gain the experience that employers want.

Once you've got a bit of real-world experience under your belt then you're much more saleable and will have a much greater chance of getting the jobs you want.

I was the same.

I still am.

Only problem is, when i had my bike on the road i'd come home early and not be bothered to go to a lesson later in the day.

If i walk home now, that means i'd have to walk back, which i really cant be arsed to do so i stay in school...

I just want to leave and get a job really...its annoying of how many people ask for 16 - 45 year olds then always hire someone over the 21 age mark. That rubs me up.

Just get some sleep before and eat before you go out....take your helmet off first though mate Razz

As said mementomori , remember that you are mortal , people often don't think of their deaths and the limited time they have to live. And thus waste it if you look at 1920s christian art it often had themes of egg timers , skulls etc.

In 50 or so years time TV addicts will think oh crap I've wasted my life, but it'll be too late...

Hate to say this but I was a lazy tosser at school more interested in going out than working hard for grades.
Got a job on the fairgrounds when I left school and was kicked from piller to post till I straightened up and became a team player.
yes when you made the grade and where accepted and pulled your weight you got the girls and the cut of the money found by spinning the waltzers so all the coins came out of pockets.
After I got my apprentiship I knew I wanted to reach the top in my chosen proffesion and back in late 80s early 90s I was earning on average £4000 a week but working all the hours available putting in 36 hour shifts 12 hour rests and then back for more of same day in day out week in week out. Never went home at all for over 6 months then the lure of abroad took over and I found myself in bandit country outside Joburg and then in Nigeria with a gun always on my side.
Get back into studying or learn to take some very hard knocks because if you work your way up some bastard will always want to knock you back down.

imho you need to discover your passion. A life coach might help with this. Once you know what you're passionate about you'll be surprised how easy it is to do the graft required. Being a bit bright is an arse, you coast school so having to apply yourself is all new at a point where it's harder to learn, but it can be done. Also, dont tie yourself into one thing too tightly your passions will change as you age.

Pretty much the same as me when I was younger, well apart from the posh school bit. I cruised through my GCSE's, made a half arsed attempt at A levels then left after the second year with some average grades. Monged around for a year then decided to try and get a job, engineering at first then decided on joinery. I'm thinking about starting up my own joinery company in the summer, problem is I'm still lazy Laughing

The best bit of advice I can give you is to just knuckle down and get some reasonable grades. Even if you have no aims in life now in a couple of years you might decide to go to university, do an apprenticeship or whatever. It will make life easier for you, which is good for lazy people like us Smile

Half Lyfe's and Rookie's stories sound very familier.

I started to notice at A levels, how the not soo bright kids, that spent all their waking hours stuffed in their revision started to school me in mock essays.

I've never revised in my life, and decided to start revising for my A levels.

Then i had the surgery on my leg right before my A levels, got mashed up on painkillers during most my exams, and ended up with shitty grades and failed two subjects due to not handing in coursework.

Now i have no regrets but i'm aware of how hard life is going to be for now.

Thumbs Up

Best of luck to you all, and working a crap job makes you realise that you need to sort things out =)

(Still dunno wtf i'm going to do though lol)

Jesus we all sound so similar!

It's the same story with myself, after my SATS i realised how little effort i had to put in so i stopped applying myself altogether.

I got alright GCSE's (10 C's and 1 B) and completly flunked my A levels (E,E,U), at the end of the year the college told me that i either drop out or they kick me out, i figured dropping out looked better to anyone who asked.
To top this off i quit playing rugby and very quickly found myself with no money and a crap social life.

I decided i needed to do something, anything, to stop myself becoming some lonley lazy fat kid, i went out and got myself a part-time job in a shop, i found myself being able to afford to go out with my friends again and with a little encouragement from them i got off my arse and applyed for another college doing motorbike mechanics.

Anyway im now still at the college about 2/3 of the way through the first year, i have the option of two more years if i want and im happy to say im doing really really well at this course, its an hour and a half's journey on a crappy london underground train so the temptation to bunk lessons is gone, i feel like ive turned my life around completly.

Only you can motivate yourself, think of something you'll enjoy and aim towards it, theres no point in wasting years of your life getting qualifications to a job your going to hate.

I'm in my 3rd year of Uni and only now getting to the point where I'm realising how hard it actually is. One thing I worked early on, though, was that it's a shitload easier if you actually go to all the lessons/lectures. I try not to miss a lecture so at least I don't have to ask other people for their notes
