What do you "do"? How happy are you with it?

How many of you are happy with your current situation in life?

last year i was doing bits of cad/surveying work. it was ok but sporadic, boring and not set to improve ever (whole office of miserable gits, all clearly hated the job but still carryed on).. ok it was shit.

Now i'm a full time student (again*), Not much money to play about with now but very much happier ..easy for me to say, i live at home still and have no major bills/debts.. but theres some with a house, kids, cats, dogs e.t.c. who are studying too.

So how happy are you all with your situation? are you planning on changing it anytime soon?


(*been one before but just in it to get some kind of job at the end. really bad reason to be on any course, impossible to have your heart in it when your barely able to act interested. but sometimes you have to do something shit to realise how bad you want to chase your ideal..)

full time student, and am not really enjoying it, frequently missing days. I have an exam in 2 days that i haven't even started to revise for. Bah i can retake it in summer.

Currently work as travelling security...its crap, poorly paid and often long hours with no breaks. Sporadic work, sometimes theres loads, sometimes theres nothing. Absolutely hate it but its all I can get right now. If you want any advice, dont do it, everyones a wanker in that industry.

Got a dad whos trying to kick me out of the house.

Got a mum who is a backstabbing bitch and is trying to rob me of £30,000.

Got insurance claim still going on, the solicitor I was appointed is a retard and its gone too far to change solicitors.

Got little money, can barely afford petrol and fags.



Upside, setting up my own business, ill be able to do work from home, earn more money and not have to travel for 4 hours to work. Get my driving licence by then as well so ill hopefully be able to get a car once my business is up and running.

TBH, if it wasnt for my gf who does everything she can to help me and I absolutely adore her for it, id have probably sold up everything and buggered off somewhere, god knows where, probably abroad.

tbh thats where i was too, everything last minute. not because it was too difficult, because there was no interest there.

Its much easier getting it done when its handed out, never done it before myself and now wish i'd done before..
It being something you want, or at least ending in a qualification to get where you want, makes it 500% easier.

What year are you in? dont be affraid to swap to something else! i can tell thee now its better to change after 1 year than 2/3

faddius- sounds shitty :/ hope things work out for you, you have a plan which is a good start
I know the feeling about jumping ship, part of when i'm doing is just to be ready to be in that position if the need arrises, depressing.

Happy with my lot at the moment. I work in Insurance () as a Senior Motor Underwriter. I like the industry and it would appear im good at the job.

Good money, great laid back office environment with good perks.

Unfortunately all my money is about to be taken up by buying a house by myself. Isn't cheap when you're on your own. With me currently at home with my parents I have a few grand a month to play with but now it's all going on walls and kitchens and stuff

I fix fruit machines and other gaming related equipment found in pubs and so forth.

Lousy hours 10am-9.30pm, had to give up Kickboxing and what little social life I had.

Trouble from the locals in some pubs can be very frightening as well.

Oh, I never know what days I have off so I can't plan anything.


However, the overtime is good so that outweighs the negatives for now. We're also getting new cars (Pug 308's). See the pic for what happened to my current company car.

i origonally did a course in biomedical engineereing, but decided after 2 years it wasnt for me. i took a year out and worked for the council. now im a second year in biomedical sciences, sounds similar but is WAY different. im going on placment next year with a £5.5k grank, and am going to become a microbiologist. life is good. i work part time as a pizza fast food guy. also i have a driving ban until june, but the world is still good. woohoo.

I was doing Chemistry at Uni, moved lock stock 180 miles to do it. After the first year jacked it in because I was falling behind in work, the course was forcing me to do stuff i'd not been told about at all and generally didn't enjoy it much at all, certainly couldn't see myself wasting another 3 years doing it and then into a job doing it all week.

Instead I left and got a job, worked since, and am now an HGV driver, hardly a job that'll make you sound interesting, but it pays more than any post graduate chemistry job would've and I don't have the uni debts to pay off, it's 3.5years since I left uni and I have my own house and a pretty comfortable life, so don't regret it one bit. Generally pretty happy at the moment, not so keen on my working week including Sundays and being shifts but it's not so bad. I plan to go back into education possibly in 5years or so, but may replace that with working for myself, depends how things go and if things fall into place, so far this year everything couldn't have gone better really.

I work as an accountant which is nearly time served but I never stay at one work place for any length of time.

The work isn't exactly thrilling ,

But today I woke up and it felt like I was at last content with my lot in life than I had the beginnings of a Clan in Manchester , mates to go have some fun with outside of riding and had started to move away from so so wages to a bit more.

Of course people attempt to rain on my life which some of you may have noticed and made me somewhat angry today but its just a passing amount of anger and the big question the accuser has to ask oneself is what is my motivation for saying such things , and I can't think of any myself.

Can be boring and samey but enough variety to keep it more interesting than not.

Good projects to do every so often (we just bought a company and had to integrate them into our ifrastructure for example and I have a large say in all aspects from planning to implementing).

Wouldn't swap it except for retirement with a big pot of money

I'm currently in a probation period for a software house as a developer/designer, working for a third of my previous package, but I'm loving it. There's no backstabbing, no politics, no endless amounts of pointless documentation, if you need new equipment it's ordered without having to plead and beg, and one day a week is "personal development", where you can do what you like as long as it's productive.

How long this will keep up I don't know, but in the meantime I'm becoming much more marketable, and I actually want to go to work in the mornings.

I'm an accountant working in a big firm down in Southampton. Used to do audit, but recently moved to the Corporate Finance department (advising on company deals and whatnot), much better than what I was previously doing. Still, just treading water before my sponsored visa comes through for my transfer to the Brisbane office of our Australian firm. Gotta go for my X-Ray in 5 minutes for the visa.

Homelife is pretty good too - tis fun playing with my nearly one year old daughter, have a great relationship with the missus too. Money is a bit tight but isn't it for everyone, and we're probably better off than most.

Would be nice to get the bike fixed (carbs still in bits, waiting on parts), but weather is shit here so no matter.

Can't wait for Oz, new start and all that.

Go for it.

Million times better than regurgitating an audit every few weeks. Each project is different, you use your brain more than simply following procedures, you dont have to consider the impact of early adoption of FRS26, or complete dull dull IFRS conversions, any of that techy crap gets shoved down to the audit boys (if we need to). Team is smaller, so much better atmosphere, partner contact is high, and you get thanks (unbelievable I know). Because fees are higher, its more liberal with expenses - nice hotels, good meals, lots of team pub visits, and I haven't paid for a drink since I moved.

Only pisser is that I'm due to go back to audit when I get to Oz. Though I'm hoping I can do something about that...

Not the best but i do have something to look forward to, in the form of starting dipHe Adult nursing in september, hopefully!

Currently jobless as my time management at Dabs was absolute bobbins. So im currently on the hunt for another job which is occupying my time.

So once i have a job, i can enjoy summer and look forward to uni in september and get a decent career path in the making.

Hi

Until 6 months ago I was working as a support programmer for a well known utility company. Place was not good to work at (zero training in 5 years), and then went down hill in a big way with a new boss who didn't have enough people skills to run a chain gang. Left before I killed someone (wouldn't have been a problem if the right person had been in front of me if I had finally flipped).

Just starting to do some programming work for a small company which I should be starting working for properly next month. Not sure whether I am 100% on it. It should be good but I currently have zero self confidence which isn't helping me settle into it.
