Not aimed at anyone in particular, but I just hate the 'mate' added to the end of just about everything these days...

"how are you, mate"
"Thanks very much, mate"
"fook off, mate"...
on...
and on...

Is it just me or is absolutely everyone using 'mate' ... Twisted Evil

It's G-h-e-y stop it Wink

I hate 'dude' more. You're not a californian surfer from 1978.
It's just a figure of speech, get over it.

I use dude far too often.

I hate the way people use mate so casually though. I only add it to the end of the sentence if they actually are a mate. lol

Well personally I like "mate", where I come from it's a term of affection and recognition, if people don't use it well that's when I get worried. But I get really scared when they call me "pal", as in, "now listen here pal", or "oi, pal shift it!" and so on...

I use mate in real life, dude online (McGays fault) and it's all casual speech. Doesn't mean anything bad it's just another casual communication.

Thumbs Up

I use "blu".

"Alright blu?" or "I'm good blu, you?"

I blame it on some old geezer I once knew...

I say dude about 50 times a day.

My other generic male greeting is 'alright son'

I don't tend to say 'mate' that often.

Give me karma, I am cool. Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool

the assistant manager at my last place of work used to call all the customers mate. I hated it, if a shop assistant calls me mate I usually tell them I am not their mate! Mind you doesn't help having short hair & usually wearing bike gear, if someone sees me from the back I can easily be mistaken for male, then I get really cross and tell them I am not male & not their mate!!

I am mistaken for a girl everyday on my way into college. A friend of mine started calling me a "Butch Lesbian" after I went into class with my bike jacket and gloves on. The word spread really weirdly and now I get a group of emo kids shouting "Butch! Butch! Butch!" whenever I ride by. Might stop and take my helmet off tomorrow. Leave the gloves on though.
