OK

last nitght i was getting ready to go home and put my lid on my seat while i strapped my tank bag on.
a big fuck off gust of wind launched it off the bike onto gravel and it looks like a big chips been removed from the paint.
im a bit worried about the white spot in the middle of the chip as it looks like its scratched the fibreglass underneath.
am i alright to be riding with it or is it new helmet time ......

Ta

Gaz.

I would have thought it would be fine.
I doubt going from seat height onto gravel would have damaged the internals.

Aha, I thought we hadn't had one of these in a while.

The response is always the same, some say do, some say don't.

It's your head, how much do you value it?

Jesus, the old "your helmet is made from light-bulb glass but twice as thin" bullshine. Laughing

Your helmet will be absolutely fine, unless you think a fall of approx 2 feet onto gravel (gravel mind, not concrete or tarmac) will have cracked it. If it has cracked it, or otherwise rendered it useless, thank god you found out how shite it is before you had a crash in it. Laughing

I've got a couple of helmets in similar condition due to the odd stone chip or light scrape.

I've also had them inspected by various officials at track days saying that they are fine. One guy advised me I could take my helmet back to Arai and ask them to give it the once over.

In summary, from the fall it seems highely unlikely that you have caved in the protective interior of the helmet shell, so I expect it will be fine Smile .

Maybe place your helmet on the floor next time Very Happy

You should see the back of mine where the bolts in the Trikes boot banged into it.

Does the fibreglass look and feel good to you?

If your head was in it I'd probably leaning towards the bin camp because the inside deforms, but as it wasn't and it didn't drop too far then stop behaving like a boys band and wear it!

nice one - on my head it stays Smile
Havnt really got the cash for a new lid at the mo, but will probably add a new helmet to the list of stuff to buy and get one when i get the cash - just wanted to make sure it wasnt gonna fall apart if the worst happens and i do come off - can remember my CBT intructor saying dropped helmets should go in the bin.
ta for the advice.

I've done the same to mine and I'm not to worried about it, but at the end of the day it boils down to personal preference, and what you can afford.

Pic of the damage to mine is attached.
