Have driven that once - it is quite bizarre.

The ariel view lets you work out what it is trying to do - seems to create an anticlockwise roundabout, with priority to the right on joining.

Just like those crazy frogs used to have!!

Maybe the designer was a Francophile. Thinking

I didn't notice that until I read your post - but it is plainly obvious that a "French" roundabout was the objective here! I still can't quite figure out why though...

You can actually go in either direction on the main large round about, with the objective of taking the shortest route, but standard rules apply to the mini-roundabouts of course.

Because the big "roundabout" isn't really a roundabout. Wink

Driven it before, never been on it on a bike though, imagine if you could get your knee down on it though. Laughing

The one you link to (Hemel) is very easy to negotiate and, it works really well.

Oh man, build something like that here in the southern US and all traffic would just come to a complete stop. People here can't even handle themselves at a simple stop sign, much less something that complicated. Would be fun to terrorize that on a bike though.

I had a bad experience on that roundabout when I was 17 and had just passed my driving test - ended up on the motorway to London at 5:30pm on a Friday evening when I was trying to drive to Oxford Sad

Really not as confusing as they look and work pretty well.

There's lots of mini-roundabouts in pairs and no-one ever gets scared by them.

All these roundabouts are just lots of mini roundabouts, you just have to look at the smaller picture (your going round a mini roundabout) not that your going round 8 roundabouts around a larger roundabout in which ever direction I want.

Not been on the magic roundabou yet, hope i never have to Laughing

The worst one i have to deal with in swindon is "The Moonrakers". People just come straight down the road and fly straight across them Shocked (North to south on the pic).

Find most drivers tend to do that on roundabouts anyway! Rolling Eyes

Dont forget, approaching a roundabout you (or the car driver I should say) only has to give way to traffic on the roundabout to their right so if you already on it to their left, LOOK OUT!!! Praying

I think the birds-eye views of those roundabouts are brilliant.
The mini-roundabouts remind me of the 'piston' from Wankel rotary engines.

Good to see sunny Hemel making it to BCF - the plough is a good idea, fucked up by stupid people who can't drive - especially the people who think they can turn left from the right hand lane(s).

Cardiff's one-way system will drive you insane if you don't know where to go.

The one-way system pretty much diverts all traffic away from the centre of town. Meaning that the only way to get to certain parts of town are through clogged up narrow roads which haven't yet been touched by the one-way system craze (namely round the back of town, by the CIA.. under the railway bridge.. you know what I mean if you use it).

I used to live in Gravelly Hill (Spaghetti Junction's real name is 'Gravelly Hill Interchange' I think).
Could see it from my window and went through it everyday on the way to uni. It was my local 'famous landmark' at the end of my road Smile

As has been mentioned, Colchester has something very similar to both of the types of junction in this thread.

There's at least a few of these:

https://www.youhaventlived.com/qblog/2005/rndbt1.jpg

And then you have Greenstead:

https://www.youhaventlived.com/qblog/2005/rndbt2.jpg

Google Map

I did Greenstead twice on my driving test, which I'm pretty sure wasn't even a proper route, and also ended up having to negotiate my way across both of the roundabouts on the first picture. Bloody ridiculous.

To be perfectly honest, Brighton has its fair share of stupid road designs, but a google mapping alone would not show this, the timing of traffic lights (generally all green at once) would need to be explained, among other things. Another day perhaps.
