Hi all- Just a question about my cats manky eye Smile
She had a little scratch/scab above her eye a couple of weeks back, not too sure where from. She wasnt really scratching it much, only now and then. However the scratch has spread abit and now her upper eyelid is swollen, covering about half her eye. Underneath the eye lid the skin is swollen and bright pink. Ive tried to take some pictures but its not that easy lol. Anyone have ideas what it could be and best way to treat it?
Many thanks
Liam (and family Thumbs Up )

I reckon get to a vet who will probably give a dose of antibiotics and prescribe some tablets. To me it just looks like an infection that can have been caused by a scratch (whether she did it or another cat did).

I've rushed to the vets on many occasion when Ralph (stop sniggering) has suddenly changed shape rapidly, only to discover it's Cellulitis caused by a scratch, and all it does is swell up, pustulate (making you feel sick yet?) then burst. Sick

+1 on a vet. I really would have thought that would be a no brainer.

If you are wanting to cut costs (to which I would then say why have a pet when you can't afford to keep it properly), then get some antiseptic cream from a chemists and apply, as you would if you cut yourself and it looked a bit manky. She'll prob just rub it off tho.

Our cat had a wound to the head that festered un-noticed for a couple of weeks. It was the smell that eventually gave it away. I went in with various implements, got it opened up to the air and swabbed it all out with Detol, and it was as right as rain within a couple of days.

LMFAO! Brilliant!

Cheers for the replies. Yeah well we contemplated the vets, but as she has a had a swollen mouth and other stuff before to which the vet has just given some steroids. It seems, well, a bit pointless if its just an infected scratch. I just wanted to check it wasnt anything to serious. If it gets worse then we'll take her. But she seems perfectly happy...her usual mentalist self!
Thanks. Karma for all

No, he knows not to mess with me and is pretty well behaved/tolerant anyway. I think cats can sense when something is benevolent anyway, to a point.

Well, that's lucky, a friend of mine tried to give his cat a little bath the other day, you should have seen how far it jumped out of the bath once it realised what was going on! Shocked

If it was you or your child you would be down to the doctor straight away! Just because it's a cat doesn't mean it shouldn't get the same treatment you would give to a human. My cat got a scratch across his eye and I got him straight to the vet so he needed minimal amount of anti-biotics. Leave it too long and it could get worse and cost you more than if you took her now.

Actually, i probably wouldnt. I rarely go to the doctors myself unless it seems to be something pretty serious and even then it takes some persuasion. As far as i see it, anything that my immune system ,or the cats immune for that matter, can probably fight off then it will. Unless it becomes a real issue then ill get anti-bio's to help.
The cats eye is much better today. Swelling has gone down so unless it develops into some kind of creature overnight i think she's ok. And now she'll have a slightly stronger resistance to some infection. No need therefore to have gone to the vets.
Nonetheless, i appreciate your concern for my cats well being.
Regards
Ls
