This is a karma rant btw.

The miss-use of karma does my head in,

overrated - How can a post be overrated if no one has rated it or if the onlys rating have been negative? Please do not give posts the rating overrated unless it had had positive ratings.

Spam - This gets used to frequently for the wrong reasons, there are certain people on here that use it for the wrong reasons. e.g. Someone randomly comes on here out of the blue and says, 'Come to my new webstore' this is spam.
If someone clogs up a thread/forum with random crap this is spam.
If someone posts about a link that people have seen before this is NOT spam.

I doubt there is a single person on here that would post a link that they know has been posted before, there is no point. Don't give negative ratings to posts like this, people to not deserve a bad rating for making an honest mistake. Remember that some people might not have seen the link first time round either.

I'm my opinion is negative ratings should only be given if a person is...

Trying to give advice but are completely wrong/talking bollocks (this can be forgiven if they state in the post it might be wrong)

I do not agree with people who do this especially if it is in the workshop section it could get people hurt or lose them money.

They are on the forum purely to advertise something.

If they are being abusive to someone without provocation.

If there post is very poorly written i.e. chav speak.

There are probably a few other situations, feel free to post them.

If you are having a debate without someone and give there post a disagree rating, I personally consider this petty.

Think carefully before giving negative karma it isn't as clear cut as it states, I find a lot of stuff on here 'boring' I don't give everyone the rating, I disagree with a lot of stuff here again I don;t give everyone that rating.

Common sence is required, don't give someone negative karma unless they really deserve it.

By the 2nd definition all posts on here could be classified as Spam.

While I agree that sometimes karma seems to be a little out of order you have to remember that as good as your list may be and as passionate as you are about said list you have to understand not everyone will agree with you.

Ultimately if I enjoy someones posts or think theyre a complete dick it has nothing to do with the colour or number of those silly blobs near their name.

As for your overrated rant - of course you can think something is overrated if it is effectively neutral - you may think it is the shittest thing in the world and should be a solid glowing red blob, anything more and in your opinion it is overrated. Simple.

Karma and post ratings are two different things. The ratings are used to show how people feel about your posts, not to give or take away karma. It's easier and quicker to do a couple of clicks on a mouse rather than replying with a pointless "lol" or "I agree".

Nothing more boring than reading another post on how someone has got their knickers in a twist because one (now two) of their posts has a red blob above it.

Look at Jamie for example. He must have more bad ratings than anyone here but still has gold blobs. What does that tell you? Posting in certain sections gets you blobs, not ratings.

To be fair this sort of was about the Rick Astley thread but not in the way you think, I don't think by definition it was overated negative it all you want but I really don't see how something with only bad ratings can be 'overated' am I on my own here?
