Has anyone got a recent Tom Tom GPS world database?

Just looking to update my Tom Tom.

Last time I looked it was £2 via Paypal,

So I logs on and wait for it £19 .

Ehh

So if anyone's got a copy i'd appreciate it.

I've been pointed to this thread. Whilst it's nice to be popular, we wouldn't have a database at all if everyone shared it or sourced it elsewhere.

We work very hard to make it as good as it is so please don't go offering it around, if you want it then pay for it, at £19 for a whole year of unlimited downloads its not bad value for money

It's also worth mentioning that anyone found sharing the database risks having their subscription cancelled. I'm a biker myself and appreciate we all like something for nothing, but if we all do that then there won't be a database at all and then you'll be stuck with the dross that TomTom claim as their database, more holes in it than a string vest!

We don't offer the £2 option because this was seen as an easy way of grabbing it and then pirating it.

It used to be free when it was a hobby, now we employ people to maintain the database, produce 20 odd versions every week, verify sites etc etc. It takes an enormous amount of work to ensure it's accurate, not full of dupes etc etc.

There are free options available on the web, none of them are anywhere near as good as many will attest.

Ours has the best and most comprehensive collection of mobile sites of any and it's the cheapest too. And subscribers who are the first to report a new site or correct an error on an existing entry get a free lifetime sub.

You can't please everyone but for less than the cost of four packs of fags it isn't going to break the bank.

seems your involved in PGPSW then Griffog?

im happy to pay the fee for it and do so although i have been a user of PGSPW for many years now and still feel it was a great injustice when they decided to charge for it after many years of proclaiming the service was free and would always remain free.

at the end of the day it is the end users who provide you with the data to compile your database which you now profit from.

just my opinion on the matter.

And all opinions are valid. But simply providing a location of a camera does not a database make. It's the work we do that makes it any use at all. We weed out errors, dupolicates (10 people recording the same camera will give 10 different coordinates), verify sites physically etc etc.

If it were so easy to do then there would be many others doing so. It isn't.

The price hasn't 'gone up' we have simply removed the monthly subscription option. We used to have monthly at £2 or annual at £19. Now we only have annual.

We can trace the 'sources' of pirated files. Previously the maximum risk if caught was the loss of £2. Now if caught they risk losing £19. Since removing the monthly subscription option we have had a massive reduction in piracy so the move has had the desired effect.

I recognise that there will always be those who don't contribute and seek to get something for nothing but 20 subscribers got lifetime subs this month having reported new sites. If it's seen as a valuable service then I don't think £19 is too much to ask, if it's not then fine, don't bother with it or use one of the free options and take a chance with your licence.
