By law no, but the insurance company will use the fact that you didn't tell them as an excuse not to pay out if you make a claim.

yep perfectly leagal, just dont crash because they wont pay out, it will make the insurance effectivley TPO, unless you tick the little box to tell them your carrying one.

If your that concerned ring up your current policy and tell them to add it on, it will be 20 quid max. Also you can tell them you've passed your test as well.

Trying to remember this it wont be word on but

you are entitled to carry a pillion when you have a full licence

however the insurance compnay will claim all costs back from you in the event of an incident either caused by the pillion or claims made by the pillion on your insurance as a third party

Ouch, that sounds harsh!!! Shocked

But two of the most basic rules when riding under learner status is that you are not allowed to carry pillion passengers and you are not allowed to use motorways.

You must be insured to carry a pillion now. Insurers have changed the policies and to insure yourself to carry one is extra. Not telling them and riding with someone on the back could be classed by the Police as riding without insurance, they would have to dig into it though, as it won't show up on the ANPR. That could also mean an impounded bike! Be warned!

Do you post that on every discussion where more than one response to poor information is posted?

No? Thought not.

I always thought that you could carry a pillion as a learner if the pillion was a full bike licence holder, similar to a learner car driver being able to drive a car as long as the front passenger held a full car licence as both parties would be regarded as instructors. Well you lives and learns.

Thats OK then. Did you know that it is illegal to carry a pillion if you are a learner (even if they hold a full motorcycle licence)?
