Following on from this thread, it seems that a number of people are ok with the fact that the powers that be can put something in place where you have to say you don't want it, otherwise it's assumed you want it.
Personally, I don't care what happens to my body once I'm dead. In fact, if some med students want to chop my willy off and produce it at parties, then go for it, I say.
It's the assumption that I'm ok with anything they choose to put in place that narks me. A number of places I visited last year (a zoo, a stately home, a park) had "donations" to various causes included in the admission price, and you had to say that you didn't want to donate to get the cheaper price. WTF? If I want to donate, I'll donate - don't try to take it out of my pocket then make me look like the wrongdoer for asking for it back, you bastards.
People standing at the end of a checkout with a donation bucket who start packing your stuff before you've got a chance to stop them get on my tits too - again, if I wanted help I'd ask for it.
"Sorry sir, but you didn't opt out of the 'Rooms for the needy' policy, and since you have a three bedroomed house for just the two of you, I'd like you to meet Mohammed and his family, who'll be staying with you from now on. You're to feed and clothe them, plus give your car to him so that he may start a taxi business. It's all here in this pamphlet"
I can see a time when I have to be on umpteen databases and carry a wallet full of cards, just so that I'm left alone. Maybe I'll just get "Fuck off" tattooed on my forehead, and "Hands off my willy" on my thigh.
Anyhoo, what say you? Can you see the problem with having to opt out of being a donor? ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

When I first applied for my driving licence, I saw that question and just ticked the box. It didn't cross my mind to be bothered about it. If I'm dead then I'm dead. Same as if I'm a vegetable with 1% chance waking up after 2 years, I'd rather be dead. I don't see why people wouldn't be donors, but I can understand that they have a view on it. I don't like that the govt is going to force yet another thing on us, but luckily for me I'm already born into an age where the 'golden years' of freedom and that were gone, so I don't notice the difference.
I do however have problems with things going on at the moment, and I dont get why the fuck I can't vote. I pay my tax, still in full time education, but working 32 hours a week at the same time, and yet I have to pay for a fucking government who I can't even decide is. I'm aware it doesn't make a difference, but for the purposes of the point it does. I'm paying for some trumped up fucker who needs my kidneys after I crash (probably because some cunt isn't aware that we are vulnerable because we are the bad guys) because he lives a life of fat posh foods, whilst writing up bills and drinking and smoking his fat cigars, and making money 'for the country' aka the pot of the political game.
Between the lines, I'm happy to give after I'm dead. But I wouldn't be so happy to know that I have to do it. Although maybe when I started to be aware of things, if that was already in place I wouldn't have a problem.

I swear this coutry is turning communist, but sort of secretly......
Each day that goes by, another of my "rights" seems to dissappear into thin air.
It wont be long until im forced to live to a government daily routine, in that i must get up at 6.59am and spend 5 minutes in the shower at 55 degrees C. Then i must eat 30g's or rice crispies with 120ml of skimmed milk. Then go to work in my safety pod which has been designed to keep me alive on the way to work even if i have a heart attack along the way. For this priviledge i have to pay £200,000 per mile. When i get to work, i must not look at or talk to another person or i will be sued for £100,000,000,000,000,000. Any communication i make must be via email, which has to be intercepted along the way to make sure im not talking about something a bit offtopic.
Anyone up for hijacking a part of the country and claiming it our own?? ____________________

Its preferable to the shit system we have now. Theres not exactly a massive window of use for organs, and the ambiguity while searching often leaves organs unviable. Not to mention if family arent sure they go with the /safe/ option and decline.
It should definitely be an opt out system, as most people who would actually care WOULD opt out.
Narked me off on a trip to tenerife with the uni that to save agro they marked us all down for veggie meals. If they make it VERY clear people need to opt out and are readily accessible for that, then why should the many suffer for the neurosis of the few?
Im pro opt-out for most services to be honest, assuming you are made aware you can, and not sneakily as in your donation business.
Should a family member or friend of yours need an organ, and they're faced with the usual waiting list longer then their time left, i'm sure you'll change your tune. (I haven't by the way, im just a fierce advocate of logical thinking) ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Oh and FYI, the nonsense about being turned off earlier is exactly that. I'm sure there are innumerable jokes around medical institutes about rainy weather/sunny sundays being great for organs as all the bikers chuck themselves into hedges. But there is a very strong ruling in medicine, the hypocratic oath, sometimes acting beyond the confines of common sense. That is to say, they must always do what is in their power to preserve life (or words to that effect).
If im in a coma, and going to die soon anyway, why the hell not limit the time im on a machine taking up resources? But the idea that they'll test you for a match for that charming patient in bed number two before deciding to resuscitate is so far fetched its ludicrous, not to mention a slur on all those that do work in a medical profession.
Plus if my family member was in a vegetitive state, with no chance of survival, id rather know they were used to bring happiness and life to another then see them linger in that state for longer. Even if it means i might not get to say good bye. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

I swear frequently in real life, so it only comes naturally to swear while typing, as I type what comes into my head. I dont nancy around with this half baked using v=u though, I'm putting my point across clean as it came into my head, not worrying about karma (I assume thats why they do it)
Sorry if I offended you.

Hi
I wasn't offended, I'm not that sensitive
I just don't like to see the use of too much swearing.
There's too much calling people cunts and wankers when referring to officialdom.
