Hi,

I've had Dyspraxia from birth, or as long as I can remember. I just wondered if anyone here has it or knows anyone who has it?

How does it affect you/them? It'll be interesting for me to compare experiences.

Cheers,

Will

this is either a deliberately ironic and funny reply, or you either do have "all of the above".......

.....as having all of the above, you wouldnt typically see the irony or the humor in ricardo's jest.

not wishing to make fun of your condition.........still, it explains a lot Laughing

I have dyspraxia, although not particularly seriously. It means I have a lot of difficulty trying to read maps and my handwriting is slow and absolutely awful.

Whats the one where you keep falling over stuff?
I thought that was dyspraxia?
Or is it just the hand-eye co-ordination thing?

And dyspraxia/dyslexia both have balance related issues.
I once got tested and they poked me in the back with something a bit like a reverse newtonmeter to see if i fell over.

Well... not fell over, but had difficulty staying upright.

I did have it mildly, but not to a prohibitive level.

Also the 'fancy a game of catch' was directed at the original post, with jamie i think a 100m dash would be more amusing Wink

Or 100m hurdles Laughing

I should look into it really, but I know a few experts have said it's a load of tosh.

Looks like I've got me some reading to do.

Experts rubbish it on the grounds that 'pain in the arse child' = AD disorders

Doesnt mean they are all false. Nor does it mean theres no physiological component, or psychological difficulty.

I know I have ADHD from the simple fact that Amphetamines have the opposite effect on me as they do with the majority. Even in high doses i never fidget, lose my train of thought or struggle to concentrate. I hyperfocus.
Plenty of reading available, especially wikipedia, where i gathered most of my information from originally when i noticed it and fancied looking it up. Phets led to ADHD treatments led to ADHD. Id forgotten i was diagnosed with it as a child but unmedicated.

Search for my posts on ADHD and it'll explain my view in better detail. However all psychological conditions range in severity, and mine is not /that/ bad, just causes some problems occasionally. Meh, lifes a bitch.

I was dianosed with dislexia/dispraxia,

I can't spell well, I have trouble reading analogue clocks/watches, Writing stuff down like if someone is on the phone and telling me something is a real pain, Remembering things, clumbsy.

When writing a often miss letters and go back a few words later and replace them it's really strnge to watch apparantly.

Fuck me, the guy who is ranked number 1 has thrown nearly twice as far as you Jamie.

I can never get my head around the gulf between elite ability and very good ability - it is always so, so far.

I just don't understand how people get so good at something.

(apologies for off topic randomness)

No , the aspergers was diagnosed in April 2007 by Digby Tantam who works for Dilemma consultancy agency in sheffield. https://www.dilemmas.org/staff.php

The ADHD was diagnose by Dr A currie

The dispraxia was diagnosed in 2000 by Angela Lewis, senior pediatric physiotherapist

I also have another thing called executive dysfunction , again diagnosed by proffesor Tantam.

Mate, I wouldn't lie about having all these , so piss off, I have got letters here off all the people involved that can back it up.

I've worked with kids who've had all of the above.

Dyspraxia, Asperghers, ADHD/ADD (which is quite real as evidenced by the difference in behaviour when not using phets, ritalin was the favoured one when I worked for social services.)

Asperghers is by far the most fascinating, the inability to interpret social cues, verbal outbursts (you get this with Dyspraxia, but its down to frustration mostly...) We have a 14 year old with Asperghers, it might not be PC to say it, but he is great fun. He can argue with a 40yo accountant who has a degree in law and make him look like a total fool.

Its part of who he is, just like I like to think I have a good sense of humour ( Neutral ) his asberghers is part of his character; his character is a class act. Thumbs Up

I worked with a young person for 3 years who had ADD (wasn't hyperactive.) It was at times frustrating, with global learning difficulties it made things much harder. We eventually got him diagnosed (took 2 years to do it.) He went on to Ritalin, (a amphetamine.) The difference in his behaviour was immediate and positive.

Our dyspraxic is now 17, known him since he was 10. He's fine, some coordination issues, he can be heavy handed. He also has the most amazing line in foul outbursts. Doesn't matter who's around, it just comes out like a torrent, usually down to frustration if he drops something or mucks up a game. But, its part of who he his, I think he's richer for it.

I don't do social work any more, used up all my patience. Rolling Eyes

That is all. Thumbs Up
