I was thinking today - so many of us complain constantly about their situation, saying they don't have enough money, etc...

What I'd like to know, is that if you really think about it, do you feel lucky to have what you have?

I do. I can afford a nice flat, food, the internet, a bike, and the occasional beer and smoke every now and again.

That's a hell of a lot more than a lot of people will ever have.

I'm very happy with my lot. I have my health, transport, enough money (overdraft technically) to live and great friends and family.

Yes. Lovely wife, beautiful daughter, house to live in, nice dog and a motorbike. Could do with some money though. Smile
Also got some good friends and a job that I sometimes don't hate.
I nearly typed 'It could be worse' but thought better of it. Don't want to be tempting fate Wink

I have a very high powered motorbike, a car, a roof over my head, i go out drinking/clubbing most weeks, toys like tv, laptops, games consoles, interweb etc and im only 19 still in college.

If i didn't feel lucky to have what i have i'd be pretty fecking ungrateful.

I've decided that the reason a lot of people feel unlucky is because 'society' constantly bombards those in the west, and tells them that if they don't have certain things, they're a failure.

E.g. a mortgage, a reasonably-priced family car, a TV, blah blah blah.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to have all those things, but we are amazingly lucky just to be alive, and not to have to worry about food day-to-day. Europe is one of the only places in the world in which people will never truly starve.

I consider myself lucky, own house, no mortgage, 3 happy, healthy children, a job I love and enough money to cover my bills each month. friends I trust implicitly and 2 parents who although bitterly divorced 36 years ago are now good friends with each other.

I enjoy life and believe it is for living, so I am damn well enjoying living. Smile

I almost lost my eye in an accident and still dont know if i'll ever regain full use of it, I dont have much money or job prospects, hell, I only have a 21" crt television, not even a flat screen,
But,
I have a girlfriend who loves me dearly,
Our own house, (well, mortgaged, but not to excess)
a 4 year old luxury static caravan (paid for)
No debt,

I wouldn't say I was the luckiest guy in the world, but i'm certainly not the unluckiest by a very long way. Things could be a lot lot worse.
(My keyboards bolloxsed tho and that really does get me down!. )

If I dont wake up dead then I'm all good for another day.

If I died tomorrow I'd be ok with that too.

No regrets i've had my fun and am very curious about what comes after to say the least.
Not that I'm in a hurry to find out mind

That's the truest thing said in this topic. Western society never lets us be happy with what we have. We always need more. Get one thing and you want the next.

Like owdamer said "I've only got a 21" CRT television, not even a flatscreen". Why would having a flat TV make you happier when you think about it rationally? Its only because you think you want it after being bombarded by adverts telling you want it.

Now where's that tree I was hugging again?

Luck, God, ghosts, and every other piece of bull shit that belongs in that category is the reason why the human race is going down the shitter. Be a man and take responsibility for your actions. Evil or Very Mad

I'm having serious mental health issues, but I can put that in a box and recognize that my life is pretty damn pukka. I don't think there's a single box that isn't ticked. Thumbs Up

I've got two bikes that I like riding, a full license and a part time missus. But I'm going to chop her in for a full time one 'cos it isn't working, then I'll pretty much be set. I'd like my own place but that won't happen until I sort myself out job wise.

I spend pretty much all my disposable income on bikes and a bit of drinking, I'm not interested in any other crap like Plasma TV's and PS3's or whatever Very Happy

Hi

Materially got most things I want. And if I wanted to I could afford to chose some of the things I haven't got (always wanted a Ferrari 308, and if it came to it we could probably arrange things to get one).

But mentally feel utterly useless which affects my outlook on things at the moment.

All the best

Keith

Lucky? Well, I got a decent start in life (stable family, roof over my head, food on the table, etc) but apart from that I think I've worked bloody hard for what I've got.

Yeah, but you've still got to have luck to get the right numbers once you've past that point.

(although you could argue all about statistics, but in layman's terms, that is luck. And that's what I mean by luck (not some sort of 4th dimensional effect on our lives or anything)

Another thing is that I would say a good proportion of 'posessions' that people have nowadays aren't actually owned by them, they're owned by a credit company, and they'll be paying them off for a good part of their lives.

For example, how many cars do you see on the road that are no more than 5 years old? I'd say most of them. And I bet the owners, on the whole, haven't paid for them yet.

I'm happy in material terms, too, because although most of what I own may be old and showing its age a bit, it's mine.
