Which is the best? Opinions, views, pros, cons and differences would be great. (On these, and any similar ones I have missed out)

Also is there any website which has a comparison of sporty 125's?

Cheers, Joe

You've missed off Hyosung GT 125 R.

Out of them personally, I would have an XTC. I just really like them as bikes. Underseat exhaust looks brilliant and they sound meaty.

Personally id go for either a Mito or RS. Both are quick for 125's. They sound nice, look nice and will keep you more occupied than either the XTC or the CBR. They are just as reliable as the 4 stroke 125's if you warm them up properly and feed them with good fully synthetic 2 stroke oil.

Personally id go with the mito, as i think it looks nicer than the RS and is a little bit less common Laughing

I own a cbr 125, and even tho its been reliable, and great to ride for the past 28,975 miles, i wish id of got another 2 stroke.

yup,
mito or rs,
mito looks the business but parts are a bit harder to get & therefore slightly more expensive.(round here anyway)
rs's are very common so you can always get cheap(ish) parts.
both about same speed/power wise.
i love my RS - makes me smile even on a shitty morning like this mornin when it was raining, freezing etc
but once i got up to when the powervalve kicked in, thats when i remenbered why i got rid of the cbr!
cheers,
GAZ

Some interesting Rolling Eyes cough*Svedebo*cough Very Happy replies so far. I see the general feeling is RS or Mito. Although I'm sort of playing devil's advocate here, what is wrong with the CBR/NSR? Surely the legend that is Honda have got good bikes?

Thumbs Up

gona have to say nsr, purely because i have one. I think the reputation for being reliable is purely for the engine as imho its bulletproof, but in my own experiences the electrics are crap and the fairings tend to rattle a bit. it is one of the best looking along with the mito and there arn't many about like there are rs's and cbr's, personnaly i like to be a bit different and ride something that's a bit more few and far between Thumbs Up

I would say and RS or a Mito, purely because the RS <06 has the GP125 looks which i would have died for as a 13 year old reading a copy of Bike back in the day and the Mito is a teenage wet dream because it looked like a 916.

A well ridden mito/RS would keep up with my 6 through the twisties and has more shits and giggles than any 4 stroke ever will. As i mentioned in other threads, i wouldn't mind getting one as a second bike if i have money because i missed that part of my life and i want to shame 400-600 riders! Wink

Definately the pre 07 ones, they newer ones look wank IMO.

I have an XTC, great bike, look and sound great, ok top speed 80 if your lucky, handles great tho, it does have a Suzuki 125 engine so thats pretty reliable but if anything goes on it parts are an absolute b*tch to get, as theres only 1 real importer/supplier in the country.

How tall are you? As the NSR is tinsy. But it is 4T which is good. The RS is quick for a 125 but its 2T and so needs a little more attention paid to it. As long as your happy with that then fine.

Parts are easy to get for the NSR, not so much for the Aprilia, Mito etc but still ok.

I would personally not go with the XTC, even though they looks very nice its a spares issue.

Hyonsung are coming up in the motorcycling world, don't rule them out.

Thumbs Up

The Sachs XTC and Honda CBR 125 are both 4-strokes so are in a different league completely when it comes down to performance, they will hit a 'true' (not speedometer indicated) 75mph with a real push.

The Aprilia RS125, Cagiva Mito 125 & the Honda NSR 125 are all 2-strokes bikes and so will out-perform both the XTC & the CBR (derestricted that is, although the majority of the second-hand bikes will be derestricted).

In terms of reliability (if you or anyone you know have no motorcycle knowledge already) I would recommend a 4-stroke bike as they generally tend not to have as many problems, I say generally because my Aprilia RS125 hasn't 'skipped a beat' so far.

My personal preference, as proven by my ownership of one would be the Aprilia RS125, this is because they are the fastest 125cc production road bike that you can get your hands on. As well as this they are also amazing bikes in the 'twisties' and handle like a dream. If I couldn't have an Aprilia RS125 for any reason it would have to be a Cagiva Mito 125, which I'd also recommend if you are a small lad, as they are both lower down and feel lighter. The Cagiva Mitos are about 5mph slower at top end though, however they can both top out at just over 100mph (I've had an indicated 115mph out of mine).

The NSR is also a nice bike but I'm not a fan of the styling and the fact that it's so much smaller than the other two when put side to side, however I'd definitely say this would be an amazing bike if you are a bit of a smaller lad as it is a little slower than the Cagiva and Aprilia but still very fast for a 125. It's also probably the most reliable 2 stroke of the three, being more capable of handling abuse such as cheap 2 stroke oils & not being warmed up enough before being rode.

I'd definitely recommend a 2 stroke bike if you want power, if not a 4 stroke bike will still reach a reasonable speed. The sports 125's you have missed out would consist of the Hyosung GTR 125, Derbi GPR 125 & the Rieju RS2 Matrix 125. However, depending on how much you are willing to spend and how long you are willing to wait, soon to be released is the Yamaha R-125, Suzuki GSXR 125 & the Megelli 125.

Some great posts guys, thanks Karma Thumbs Up . A couple of people have mentioned some of the bikes being small, but this doesn't matter as I'm 5'7 so that would actually be a bit of a plus Very Happy .

Another factor is insurance. I'm 17 (well I will be in a month or 2 Very Happy ), so I know that I will get raped with insurance. I did a quick online comparison thing for an RS, and it came back at £420 TPO. Is this roughly what I will be paying for one of these bikes? I know you can't tell without all my details, but from anyone who had/has one at 17 it would be nice to know.

Also, quik, isn't the NSR 2stroke?

Oh and how much / month does the oil cost? The good stuff I mean Thumbs Up

Cheers, Joe

All out speed and looks, rs50. I would chose that every time.

Reliability choice is without a doubt the cbr125.

The mito is a good bike, though I can never come to terms with the looks resembling a baby Duke when you should have the real thing Wink it's a good alternative to the rs125 if you want to be a bit more individual.

Tristan.

RS125 you mean? And of course I would have a Duke if I could afford one; I wonder what the insurance would be on one as I'm 17 Laughing

Oh and Salty can you delete 4 of your posts please lol
