Handed in my notice at work, no longer shall I be a slave to the corporate bastards that are Michelin.

Oh and I'm leaving Stoke because that's shit as well.

The drinks are on the nearest n00b with a wallet we can steal.

There's a huge 6 foot one in the reception I want, not quite sure how I'm going to sneak him out, might claim I'm taking him away for maintenance or something. They gave us lots of merchandise the other week in the form of a fleece, mug, mouse mat, picture holder, umbrella and multi tool which was nice, I have a watch and pen set somewhere as well.

So, anyone know what there is to do in York and more importantly, are the ladies a lot better class than the ones in Stoke?

Laughing

Mike's moving there, he offered me a room so I decided to stop putting it off and just go for it, I originally intended to go Leeds but numerous comments from people about Leeds being not a great place and Mike getting burgled twice put me off a bit.

I've heard nothing but good things about York, plus trains go there late at night from Manchester and Brum so it's an ideal place to be for doing stand up gigs since I won't have to keep taking holidays to do them.

York's nice, but it still has its crappy areas.

I think st3v3 lives there.

Its a student city as well (and the uni is a good one - so hot chicks for you Smile ). And like you said - On the East Coast / XC mainline, so Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle are all easy places to get to!

But you know what the best bit is? You'll be able to say you've lived in Yorkshire... only then will you have become a real man Laughing

EDIT: And about the Michelin man... Just wait for some noobie receptionist and walk in with a blue overall saying that head office is replacing all the models. Then just walk out as ditzy blonde just stares mindlessy on.

EDIT 2: Seriously.. just thinking about it.. DO IT> Get you and a mate both in blue and a clipboard or something. Then just walk over to her, get her to sign something thats got a Michelin header and then both of you walk out with it. Thumbs Up Laughing

What is the mysterious Mike doing going to York? Not heard from him in ages.

Have you got a job lined up or are you just going to see what is available?

All the best

Hey shaun,

Yorks a really nice place, as shay said, still some crappy areas, but it looks lovely. Not a brilliant night life mind, my mate goes to uni there, and theres hardly any clubs, and not tons of pubs...but to be fair, you dont move to york for the night life Razz

To my knowledge, which I will have to check out soonish, theres a few good roads around york Smile

Youre not far from Squires bike cafe Thumbs Up

30 miles from a lovely place we like to call 'Ull Smile (not so lovely, but its ok!)

And leeds isnt bad...and burglaries happen everywhere Thinking

Not far from helmsley either, some great roads round there Thumbs Up

and shay, Yorkshire, ftfw Dance!

York's a beautiful city and a very tranquil place to stay. There isn't much in the way of trouble, not comparable to big sprawling cities. The night life is shit though but for a place to live on a day in day out basis, its lovely, with god people and good scenery.

There is a thriving bike community in York. Sherburn and Helmut has a cracking bikers cafe and you have good rail access to the entire of the UK. Leeds has a blinding club scene too.

My only complaint about York is the house prices.

Theres over 350 in York. Laughing Its famous for the fact you could drink in a different pub each day of the week for a year! Rolling Eyes

The student life isn't the best in York, personally I found the students in York to be a tad 'snobby' (or maybe 'better to do' is a more preferable term). Laughing I remember reading in the York paper that the York University Students were outraged at being voted the most boring students in the UK Laughing !

He's got a new job in York because he didn't like his other one much and really didn't like the area he was living in.

I've not got anything lined up yet, spoken to a few agencies, one of which has sent my CV over to someone so hopefully that will get results, failing that I'll find some sort of crap job to keep me going when I arrive until something better turns up.

I prefer pubs to clubs anyway, much easier to chat someone up when you haven't got a speaker inside your head and a halogen lamp under your eye lids.

*holds flag up*

Fair play. Just what my mate (uni student at York....and guess what, not even kidding, he's actuallly one of my more boring mates lol Though definitely not "well to do" lol) reported back. Pubs are good, but personally (and I dont know if Shaun is the same or not) I wouldnt be able to live somewhere where my occasional "badass" night out (among the normal night outs, where pub is perfectly acceptable) was only a pub....you gotta get to a bangin' club scene more often than not, for me anyways.

And the travel costs from York to Leeds for a night out... Shocked

Shaun...tsk. For some of us, good lighting and quietness is NOT a good thing when going out on the pull Crying or Very sad

Darkness, pounding music, and some bump 'n' grind is the way to go Wink

The truly hardcore (re-read stupid) pack a travel bag with clean clothes, wet wipes, toothbrush and head to Leeds on Saturday. Its not uncommon to see me and other munters getting changed in the street, out of our heads at 9am Sunday morning to head to the next club Wink

I always feel like I am fleeing the scene of a crime after a night (actually night can turn into two/three days, music, weather and people permitting) out in Leeds so maybe its a good thing its twenty miles from where I consider home. Its no good shitting on your own doorstep!

York to live, Leeds to Rave Thumbs Up

Sounds good to me craig. Garden hopping with your trousers around your ankles at 7am on a sunday morning, and not having the sense at the time to actually remember why you were doing it - Thats some good times right there Thumbs Up

Good choice, as has been said, York is great to live in (apart from house prices. Oh and tourists in summer.)

Mudskipper's Guide To Living In York Wink

No fixed speed cameras in North Yorkshire. Cool

Most car parks in the city have bike bays which are free - you can also park free in pretty all the resident only parking areas. Thumbs Up

You should give the Evil Eye a visit. Tons of cool 'old man' pubs tucked away too - a far cry from the identikit Flares/Yates drivel-holes.

Don't park your bike next to a river, it will probably flood and float it away.

Chav scum will have an unlocked bike away in most areas (even the nice ones - they will come from the dodgy estates to see what the hardworking people have to steal).

Head south of the city on the A19 to find the B1222, which twists it's way straight to Squires.

As far as the female choice goes - well, it's a student town. I doubt anyone who isn't a hideous freak would have any difficulty pulling. Laughing

The only girl I've been with from York, was continuously off her face on coke and speed, and freaked out when I asked for my cd's back; then decided to leave me with some permanent scarring on my back Laughing

Enjoy!

There's some real nice one's about, most that I've met that are anything aren't from York, more the villages outside York. Depends what your taste is.

Ram, you got a bad sample. Wink
