See the implied admission that they are using ANPR technology to track the movements of vehicles?

It was the Romanian guy. The registration of the car had been 'flagged' as having been seen near the site of a robbery. No proof they had actually been up to anything.

They pulled him over on the basis of this then proceeded to book him for not having a child seat. Now pulled for bank robbery, booked for failure to wear a seatbelt. Another win for intelligence lead policing? Or simply flagging a car as "Please hassle". There was no mention made of the reason given for the stop.

I wonder if they have any 'checks and balances' for which vehicles are flagged up in this manner?

The copppers actually admitted that this was a useful thing to do because "It allows us to keep a track of the movements of these vehicles which could be useful in case of any other incidents."

How big a step is it from this to keeping a track of everyones movements using the same technology?

Don't like the idea of increasing monitoring of people using whatever technology, but I would have hoped they would have spotted the unbelted children in any event. The fact that they let him drive away with the kids STILL unbelted was frankly horrifying.

When you compare that to the guy who got three points and a £60 fine for having his ladder fall off the roof of his van it simply beggars belief!

The very fact that bloke stopped indicated to me that it was a genuine mistake, and he had learned his lesson, why fine the guy? I was enraged.

Compare that to the Romanian who I would bet my ass is still driving without car seats etc, but was let off scot free.

Common sense anyone?

Definately sticky, although the copper was really aggressive with him when he pulled him out of the car. That was unneccesary IMO.

It was the 18yo number plate guy thing that seemed incrediebly unproffesional of the traffic officer. There was no need for the officer to pull the chap from the car, and then the other police officer was giving has much as he got. He did talk down to the young guy, no respect. He was just wound up with him. But the face that he had 14 days to sort his number plates out, and yet still got another fine. That is just ludacris.

Do police actually have quotes to meet when it comes to fines ?

Lol i also like it on police programs where the guy the police is chasing gets away and then the presenter says something like "This criminal was arrested later, all thanks to the dedication and skill of the brave police men involved." As if they caught him. I don't think I've seem one when the criminal got away.

I didnt read all the posts so this maybe mentioned.

Bloke 1 - biker, quite old, doing 90mph on motorway. Let off with a talking to.

Bloke 2 - driver - quite old - driving wrong way up a closed motorway, told off and escorted further up the motorway the wrong way.

Bloke 3 - driver, young lad in a civic. Dragged out of car, thrown into the cop car (even though he pulled over and stopped without any problem) given a 30 quid fine.
All because when he bought the car, the garage put incorrect plates on. He already had one of those 14 day things to fix it, but was only 7 days into it.

Its no wonder young lads these days have no respect for cops when they act like this with them.

The cops attitude with the lad was also shocking, and if i was in his position when i was 18/19 i would have reacted exactly the same way as he did.

He could have been old (or foreign) and had no license, insurance etc, and would have been treated better than this lad.

As for the bloke with the ladders, as said above, if you lose something, drive off and leave it instead of being honest.

I wouldnt mind the cops going round with ANPR but bailiffs
have em in vans trawling the streets looking for untaxed vehicles.
They threatend to take a womans dog if she didnt pay up there and then .
