Fancy upgrading my bike to a litre but because i crashed it over summer and just spent loads of money on it and transfered my plate i want to keep my bike and wack in a zx9r engine in.

I have a J1 and have been looking on ebay for C model engines. Has this been done before?? I couldn't find much info out. Also what over parts do you reckon i will need.

Already i have thought:

CDI
Carbs
Air intake system??

Not sure if the engine will just fit straight in with a few brackets made up or will need a lot of work.

Thanks

The first thing to do is to look at the bore of the ZX6R engine and then the bore of the 9 engine. If the 9 engine is just longer stroke than the 6 (unlikely) then it will fit between the frame rails. If the bore is massively different, then it is likely the engine is a lot wider than the frame.

Plus, you're looking at an older engine to fit into a newer frame. It is unlikely the older engine will be as compact as a newer 600.

Lastly, I think if it was possible, someone would have heard about it being done before. I haven't heard of this, whereas I've heard of CBR 6/9's, FZR 4/6's and GSXR7/11s.

If I were a betting man, then I'd wager its not possible without very extensive frame mods, in which case its not worth bothering.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

The C and E models and G and J models didn't change much between them - what was changed was looks and internals to engines.

With the price of ZX9s at the moment, I suspect it'd be more sensible to just to get a cheap one and put the bits from the ZX6 that you like onto the 9 as loads of it is similar. This'd give you a hell of a lot more riding time and a hell of a lot less swearing time for you money, which I suspect you'd also save.

I've got a fair bit of a zx9 engine sitting around, you're welcome to borrow it and see if it fits in.

Spent the last few months helping a mate put a ZX9 engine in his ZXR750, I dont think they do fit the 600!
