I love my GSXR 1000, but its not quite hardcore enough! Not in terms of power but for use on muddy, wet, cold roads. I am not looking to sell too soon but was quite interested in one of these.

Having had a KTM duke in the past i really liked it but it was a bit underpowered and gave me a saw bum! But this looks like it has plenty of grunt and will be capable of touring.

On another note i have just returned from a trip to my dad's house in France and their roads are so much better then ours its a joke!

I'm a pussy and the 1000 is to much for me.

And I want a v-twin that weighs more and has less power than it.

I sat on a 950 supermoto at the NEC, so my comments are related to riding position only. Seat wasnt comfy, felt really small, very much like a BMX and i personally felt like i was hanging over the front (but I am 6'4).

Personally, i'd love a go on one, but i wouldn't want to go any real distance...

Not sure it'd be much better really Confused. As suggested, more weight (probably, may not be) and mud on roads, as well as wetness is rarely helped much by trail style tyres. The mud is usually hard-packed and trail style tyres means less contact with the road - less chance of aquaplaning, but also less chance of it gripping in the first place.

Got a feeling the 'real' wet weight of the GSXR is around 200kg?

I've got a feeling, but not 100% that the weights KTM list are everything but fuel, which would put them fairly similar.

And they list the dry weights. And they generally list what the manufacturer lists on their website, sometimes a completely random number.

A particularly bad website for actual facts.

Was gonna say, I thought KTM weighed the bikes with fluids etc. Was part of their race philosophy, actual weight rather than with everything out and a few helium balloons attached to it etc.

I had a test ride on the adventure version of the 950 a few months back and they're proper nice bikes so I would'nt write off the idea too quick. The link you posted is for the more road biased supermoto version so might be worth having a look at the difference between that and the adventure.

From test riding the 950 adventure I'd definately have one as a next bike. The ride height takes a bit of getting used to at first as its the sort of bike that prob helps if you're quite tall. Ability to carry hard luggage is a bonus. Also there is the option to do some light off roading but the weight of the bike would probably limit that.

Also is the BMW GS1150 or 1200 as an alternative but for me when I test rode the 1200 it just didn't agree with me. Was perfect at slow speeds around town but 60mph and above the bike didn't feel that stable.

If you're thinking of one second hand, 2003ish bikes had a few issues so its worth having a google for that.

i know a guy with a 950 and it is great fun on twisty roads
top notch WP suspension and Brembos mean its fairly useful on track too
not so good on motorways or long hauls though
and id say the 189kg is 'ready to race' i'd imagine, like the other ktm's, includes oil and fluids but not petrol
