I don't see the point you can buy a petrol chain saw for £80, stick a rear panier rack on the back and a 2 stroke chain saw and voila you have a motorised bike.

I've often wondered about sticking a decent minimoto engine in a full suspension mountain bike. Can get over 10hp from a decently tuned one - giving a pretty decent power to weight ratio.

What I would like to do is to have it power the 'normal' chain, so that you can still use the gears (at least rear ones) as well.

therefore wouldn't you just weld on a big sproket onto the outside of the front sprocket and have a bike with 2 chains?, chainsaw might be a tad dangerous that near your leg though.

For that you need a front-freewheel, otherwise you'll have to pedal to keep up with the engine.

Not sure you'd want a chain on the outside; I'd want to keep it as tight as possible to avoid it interfering with legs.
