Sounds like the plates are worn out Razz

How many miles has it done? And did you check the metal plates as they could be worn as well.

A year? Some people aren't trying hard enough at the traffic lights Wink

Could it have had car oil put in it instead of bike oil? This can cause clutch slip - cars have dry clutches, bikes have wet clutches. Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Hi

While car oil might provoke clutch slip it does not seem that much of a problem. My 1200 Bandit gets car oil with no clutch problems.

22000km = ~14000 miles so not much at all.

Is the clutch adjusted correctly, with an appropriate amount of free play? If there is too little free play then this will cause slip (which will wear the clutch more quickly).

Under what circumstances is it slipping? Has the bike been stood for a while? Who changed the plates last time?

All the best

Keith

To all concerned I've been riding bikes for nearly 40 years now and its the first time I've had a kawa usually I build bikes, but I've never bought a brand new bike and I wondered if any one else has had this problem with the drifter. as I've never had this problem with any other bike. I was told to use synth oil and the shop fitted the new clutch it has been ajusted correctly, so it might need new plates but I will fit them myself cos then I know they will be fitted properly plus it won't cost so bloody much, thanks for all your suggestions, catch you all soon ride free 8o) :karma: :D

Could it just be weak springs? Has been known to happen. Also try it on mineral oil and see if it goes back to normal after 500 miles or so.
