I just crashed my bike head on into a BIG brick wall from 35-40mph down to about 15mph on a slidey country corner... I'm fine just to let you know just a small bruise where my bike fell on my leg, BUT my front wheel and steering are jammed possibly due to either a bent axel/ Damaged yoke/ Twisted forks-shocks or all of that stuff, bike not in a bad way apart from that with no fairing damage but I need to wait for my uncle to help me transport it cuz its stuck by a farm... I have a feelin it is going to be expensive so I might not be on tha bike for a long while. My mood Is currently not to bad and I was only a bit shocked, had I been going any faster and actually hit tha wall myself, I probably would'nt be talking to you now, but as it happens I got lucky... However I don't know how I am going to feel without my pride and joy so in other words PISSING ME OFF in anyway would not be a good idea for anyone right about now. ENJOY Very Happy

Any Idea's for tha best course of action due to its damage? Considering I'm not really very much in tha money, Its a Honda NSR 125 (2000 foxeye R1) [pictured in my avater], I will post tha full extent of tha damage but can anyone offer me any advice as to a course of action? Cheap parts? Or if tha damge is greater than I fear will I be looking at sending my pukka beaut to tha bike graveyard? Shocked I hope not Sick Any advice would be appreciated immensley Thumbs Up . Mr. Green

Bad darts!

Foxeye forks and yokes are really easy to find for sensible money so don't despair. Sure the fairings etc may be shagged but to get the bike rideable again shouldn't be too much trouble.

Good to hear
your still in one piece haha

Dont mean to worry you
but when we repaired a mates 50
after a front end crash it never drove the same again..
Just think about how much you'd realistically need to put in, and whether its certain to bring out a result the same as what was had..

I would say you are looking at, at least bent forks, poss damaged wheel and headstock/yoaks.
Could also have damaged the frame as well.
Best bet get it to a dealers who have a jig and get them to look at it.
15 to zero is quite a big shock to be absorbed by the bike.
Amazing you did not head but the wall as well..

Stay safe. Thumbs Up

Yeh thanks guys I'm hearing allot of great advice here...
I have yet to assess tha true extent of tha damage but tha bike is safe at my dads garage now so I have options.
If it is in a bad way or too expensive I would definetly consider seeling it in its current sate if viable.

@ JBurrows88 I have actually just recently passed my full test so I'm on tha A2 restriction.

most probably bent forks and yoke, need new wheel and front fairings. Budget 300 to fix.
how did you manage to go head first into a wall?

Easy mistake, theres a bend on some twisties near me that arent lit up at all and it curves round and at the apex theres a turning for a private drive with gravel, and very big iron gates after a few metres.

I always see the gravel road, presume its the normal road, head for that, go off the actual road, realise its gravel, realised ive cocked up again, swear and brake heavily on gravel and normally stop very close to the gates and my friend normally ends up inches behind my back wheel because he doesnt pay attention.

Its all good fun Thumbs Up

hehe, Im fine in the day.

But its about 12 sharp corners flowing directly into one another, the corner I have problems with is about half way through them and at night, leaning over then flicking it the other way and watching for chavs in shagged out old puntos coming the other way thinking theyre the next world rally driver, you loose count which corner your on till you suddenly come accross it.

So take it slower and give yourself time to corner correctly.

You shouldn't be relying on 'local knowledge' to get you through the bends.

Forks might not be twisted if the pinch bolts at the bottom of the Yoke did their job - they are designed to grip the forks under most conditions but allow them to move with twisting forces under extreme conditions saving the forks from the worst forces.

Tis why you shouldn't over tighten pinch bolts.

Thankyou Kal that should be really helpfull... I Still have'nt given tha bike a full inspection as It is now at my dads garage but if lettin air out of tha tyre allows tha front wheel to roll then I'll atleast be able to wheel it up to my local garage and get it looked at.

Yes it was my fualt and nobody elses but I really just don't have any Idea as to what I could have done...
I was at tha correct speed as it was actually a national speed limit, I was at about 35-40mph aproaching for tha turn and beginning to slow down, I allready knew it was quite sharp having allready been through it coming tha other way.
When I realised I was'nt getting any grip off tha road (I was literally just drifting as If it was ice) I applied both brakes but hit tha gravel soon after, then tha rear wheel may have locked and it slid out about a foot then I hit tha wall at what must have been 15mph, and came of on tha right side where tha bike landed on me.

Tha road would have been slightly damp at tha time, most roads were dry as it was quite a sunny day (Saturday) but it had absoloutly no holding, my brakes saved me from worse but what could have been tha cause for this accident?
Diesel/ oil/ Petrol spill? Quite possible actually as this corner was tha entrance to a farm.
Black Ice? Doubtfull... I know how tha weather has been as of late but it had been a solid day of sun.
Grit/ Silt/ General road debris? Possible, but not visible.

I did return to tha seen at night to recover tha bike but there were no tyre tracks on tha road and only faint marks on tha gravel/mud which I suppose confirms tha my rear wheel did not lock until very late.

Tha only thing I could think of that might have let me get up and back on tha bike is if I had locked tha brakes on tha road and slid off to save my bike hitting tha wall, I would'nt have minded damaging my fairing as it is a tough one and allready a bit beat up anyway, but It would be impossible to know what might have come around tha corner at that time.

Tha lesson to learn here is that I should be even more carefull around country roads (Allready was I fear them to an extent) But to watch tha corners becuase apart from dickheads bombing around in tanks and dickheads like me bombing around on bikes, there is allways bound to be a big pile of horse shit or something waiting to greet you were you expect it least Laughing .

I've had a couple of off in corners due to pushing it more than the Bike liked so you aren't alone.

Only thing I can suggest, especially while road temps are so low is to throttle back more for corners, keeping the bike more upright and giving yourself more time, only piling the power back on when you can see your exit.

Just keep in mind that speed limits are the upper safe limit in good conditions, as conditions worsen the limits come down.

and now I'll be off to teach grandmothers to suck eggs...

I know you have admitted it was your fault and all that, but.....

Can't be correct or you would have stopped before the wall.
Bends are totally diffrent in each direction, in the way you can take them.
Also more people crash on local roads they know than on unknown roads... Its the I know i can take this at 50, which may be fine, on a dry sunny day, but far to fast to stop should there be something in the road. Or its dark and cold....

I would also stick to the back of your group, if you have mates that are running so close they blindly follow you......

Ride slower, its more fun being with friends than always going at it solo.

Two of my friends have 125s, another has an XJ600 which is quite shagged out and wont keep up with my sv, but I have no issue with going slower than I would normally as long as Im with my friends. Likewise, they appreciate that I do like going fast and have no issue with me blasting off ahead of them round a set of twisties because they know ill slow down for them to catch up.

We normally enjoy riding to stratford in the summer, down the back country lanes through villages etc. and normally stop half way for a chat and make sure everyones ok, normally next to a bridge with a river. Have a fag and a chat etc. before moving on, thats something id never do if I was by myself, its just not quite the same, or as much fun.

Well I'm pretty much breaking tha bike to sell for spares now, and I've entered a competition to win a much bigger bike. (I'm not gunna hint what bike or what competition sorry becuase I really need to win Karma).
But otherwise I'll have to save up tha rest of my money and get another NSR (cheapest option) or save up a bit more for a bit longer and buy either a ZXR400 or a CBR600, something like that. Razz

OK, if you want people to think you're a tosser and never be taken seriously and tribal conflict in Kenya to continue and genocide in China to become widespread and and and and
