Im not happy with my azaro front and shagged out pirelli rear, im going down to Essential Rubber in about 30 mins...

The first targets on my list are Bridgestone BT-021's,

But i believe my 98 Hornet has a 16 inch 130 front tyre, and i cant find anyone that sells that size in BT021 so i may be unable to get my favourite tyres...

So on that note if i cant find them for this one tyre change i will try something else comparible to the BT021/020, Looking for grip and tyre life, but if choosing one over the other would prefer grip this time...

Looking for a quick reply to influence me before i go, failing that by all means discuss your favorite tyre for the nth time...

get a pair of Pirelli Diablo's. Not the corsas, not the supercorsas. Just plain bum basic diablos.

The best tyres I've ever used!

Yeah, Pirelli Diablos are probably your best choice, normally last about 4000 miles. There's a shit choice of tyres for the 16" front, I think Metzler do some (not surprising since they're really Pirelli), and Bridgestone do a sporty 16" front and sports trouring rear. If you go on their site and tell it to come up with tyre pairs for 98-99 Hornet it'll show you the combination.

Other than that I could never find any other tyre pairs for the 16" front, which is why I've just bought myself a 17" front.

Another for road attacks, but they don't do a 16 inch front.

I had pilot sports on my '99 hornet, they were awesome, now been discounted, although you may be able to find one. I think it was the Road 2 that replaced it, but that doesn't come in a 16 inch front.

Try and get a pilot sport. Wink Awesome tyre. Plenty of grip in the cold and had no problems with it on track.

EDIT

You can also get Diablo's in a 16 inch front.

Well i went down around lunch time, great crack as usual at Essential Rubber, had 3 guys working on my bike at the same time at one point...

Ended up with a pair of Pirelli Diablos, Basically it was those or some bridgestone 014's i think, but i doubt they would last...

As i said im a Bridgestone man through and through so im going on a bit of a punt with these, damn bridgestone for not catering to a 16 inch front... Maybe if these diablos are shit i will go for the 014 front and 021 rear, i figure usually its two rears to a front, so with that setup it would be swap each at whatever interval

first impressions of the diablos are good, i have done about 60/70 miles in shit weather today, most of that with various pillions, they seem solid, clearly better than what i had before (Avon Azaro front, and some nondescript pirelli rear) but i dont know if its my inner bridgestone fanboi but they dont feel as special as a new pair of 021's on the bandit did... As i say i got them now i will give them a chance... Bring on the dry roads..

Cheers for the advice...

I know people rave on here about BT-014s but when I tried them on a mate's Z750 I though they were the slowest turning, least info sharing motherf*ckers I'd ever tried.

Mind you, it could be the bike I suppose. Confused

I've got 021s on the bandit and they are really good tyres. Thumbs Up

You won't regret it. I had a set on my Buell, and I did about 5000 miles, including four trackdays and they still looked new. They didn't go 'off' after a trackday like the Diablo Corsas did, and they were easily sticky enough for me. Good in the wet and ace in the dry, I simply cannot fault them.
