Anyone here interested in that hobby? Or have family / friends that are interested? I imagine some of you parents foot the bill of your kids hobby.

Would greatly appreciate anyone who comes forward and lets me know, plan on setting up a business sell their goods at a discounted rate but need to do some market research.

When I was younger me and my mates used to play it a lot, I have spent more money than I care to think of on it.

Thing about the stores I found was I'd be a lot more likely to go to them if they had good tables to play on, and a decent area to build/paint.

Oh and if the staff members are a bunch of cocks like they normally are in the Games Workshops, you may have problems as they would often put me off going there.

i reckon chatting to staff in a games workshop shop is a good idea.

They tend to be people who are into the stuff.

You dont need to tell them your plans, just get info out of them on whats seliing well etc, so you know what stock to get or whatever.

Yeah but as said before, all the staff tend to be c*nts. Especially the manager at the local store. I dont go there anymore, I did maybe 3+ years ago, but I gave it up - only reason im interested in it is because its still something I have a vague interest in (though ill never spend that sort of money again), and the trade rates are extremely good.

Other reason why I cant go in and ask them about it - as ill be advertising locally its going to have an impact on their sales - and with the current manager being the c*ck he is, he will throw a hissy fit, call the regional manager and make sure my names blacklisted against getting a trade account.

Im into the books, and used to paint some models, but never played.


Books are where its at man, at my local GW I was talking to the guy behind the counter and he reckons a good 70% they make at the moment - ie right now - is on codex's/books etc obv this will flux


course once youve got the book you dont tend to buy another of the same, so might dwindle after a while lol

But good luck to ya. I take it you're aiming to beat GW prices then, and recuce your profit margins a bit to hopefully sell more?

Thats the intention, beat their prices and drop my profits slightly. After charges etc. im still looking around 20 - 25% profit. Though the books are slightly less profitable.

You gonna sell through internet, or open up a store?

Start-up costs for both are very significant, so you might not be able to have the profit margin your looking at if you want to break even with a store to pay for etc.

For that 45% price decrease could i suggest some kind of travelling/web based? Shops make very little money as its a niche market, dominated by fads and word of mouth.

I used to be into it, used to enjoy everything about it really, but DAAAAAAAAAAAMN does it do you no favours with the women. Infact ive yet to meet a single hardcore 40k (let alone the even sadder versions, 40K's got guns and shite... normal WH has pikes and ranks ) who can mix in normal social circles, it least not one open about their seedy habit

However, just like religion, every uni has a secret subcult of wargamers. Infact, at the same time my MMA class is on we have to walk through this other hall full of people playing their dungeons and dragons etc. Quite nice juxtaposition

So yeh, still a market but id keep it web based, or at least on personal conference with the different war gaming clubs. White dwarf is owned by games workshop ergo not going to let you advertise to undercut them, and thats the main publication.

Im not particularly ashamed of the fact that I read the novels, but if someone brings up a subject like "what are you reading atm?" or something, half the time now I decline, because I cant be arsed with the funny looks and having to explain that some of the books actually are fucking ace.


But I know people that actually still play it hardcore at our age etc...and obviously Im not being horrible, but you rarely see them interact in any other way except the game itself?

But, each to their own. If it makes em happy and gives em a buzz, why bloody not. But get them on a motorbike or get em a shag and theyll be wondering what the fuck theyve been doing

They wouldn't let me play with my skaven at GW because they were painted the "wrong colour". ie. I'd used humbrol enamels and the fat guy with the BO problem was pissed off my models were better finished than his using paints he'd stolen from work.

I swiftly worked out you only need to buy a handful of models then go to a hobby shop to buy some moulding putty and lead tin alloy.

A few hours ensconsed in the shed with these items, an old saucepan and a camping stove and you've got yourself an army.
