Hi, ive completed both car and motorbike theory, and am looking to pass both, i was wondering which license you need for a quad bike, And if it were the car one. Would insurance be cheaper as the engine sizes are much lower than cars. Regards. Twisted Evil

You will need to take your car test to ride a quad on the road.

Insurance wise, you may find it to be more expensive as you'll need to find a "specialist" insurance broker as quad's are not really mainstream vehicles.

But the only way to be sure is to get as many quotes as you can.

They are er. . . Shiyte on the road anyway as they don't corner as fast as a bike or car, you can't filter on one. Best keeping them for off road. Wink

You will need your car license.

If you get an agricultural/utility quad then you can get insured by the farmers union (or specialist companies that are associated with the farmers union)

Although, if you are after a sports/leisure quad then forget insurance if you are under 19. The farmers union will probably insure you on a utility quad under 19 though.

Insurance can be expensive, my dad who is 47, clean car license for 20+ years and clean bike license for just as long is insured on a 500cc utility for about £400 FC.

However, he had an ltz400 before that and insurance on that was about £300 TPFt (he would of got TPFT on the 500 but they wouldn't as it cost more than 5k)

I also ride an ltz400 but as i aren't 19 yet, and considering i haven't passed my test then i can't insure one. But even if i had passed my test, i couldn't insure it until i was 19, or i would have a hard job trying.

Technically speaking, coming from someone at the farmers union, if you have a quad that doesn't allow passengers then you can ride/drive it on a provisional. But aparently insurance is almost into 6 figures!
