Tips on being a pillion

My husband has let me go on the back of his CBR600RR, but i need tips on how to stop myself sliding/falling into him when he brakes and stops. Help!!!!

Try putting your arms under his so you can brace yourself against the tank. I take it the bike hasnt got a grab rail or anything similair fitted?

anyone mind giving tips both ways, whenever i take someone on the back, everything seems so jerky, I'm getting a lot smoother but i still get the occasional head bump.

Somebody told me to push back on the pegs when we brake????? I think being short has something to do with it-he wants me to hold tight but i feel like i am too close.

It should be possible to sit on the bike and maintain position by leaning forwards or backwards as you feel acceleration/deceleration forces.
In corners try to shadow the 'driver' by keeping your head and body position the same as his/hers.
The idea is to be an extension of the rider's mass and not be a un-stabilising force. It upsets handling.
The trousers/skirt you wear has an effect too. If it allows you to slide about the seat.

The most important thing when two up is that the person holding the throttle remembers that there is a pillion on-board.
This means he/she can't ride like an edjit/as normal.

Smooth acceleration/deceleration and moderate the cornering activity.

No grab rails is a b'st'd. There needs to be a law against it really.

i hate it when my pillions use the grab rail, i prefer them to hold on around my waist,

you coud get a pillion mat like this they are quite effective

Arms under his and bracing on the tank works best if you haven't got a rail to hang onto

Worst thing I find about pillions is the weight when stopped especially so if its a bit windy. Mini roundabouts need really careful planning too unless you fancy scaring the passenger a bit

That'll be your riding, try feathering your clutch more.

A couple of my mates ride like the clutch is a switch (more noticable on sportsbikes) constantly throwing me into the back of their helmet like a derranged woodpecker!

When I was pillion on my dads RF600 I used to put my hands on the tank and brace myself. Now on the RD I can't do that as the riding postion is more upright so I tend to put my chest against his back and my helmet at the side so when he brakes we don't hit heads.
To be honest I don't like being pillion now as I'm not in control.

My missus holds my jacket normally whilst going along but when i brake for a roundabout or whatever she sits back up and pushes away from as i slow down. Seems to work fine so far.
