First time on car and bike.

If you're missing questions, you're obviously not doing very well at the revision; not committing it to memory properly.

I spent the couple of weeks before reading up in my lunch times; so maybe a total of ten hours or so, before the first one.

Have you read the entire book of questions front to back at least once?

I've found most of the questions are common sense. Saying that though I've only ever done practice ones as I never had to do the bike one for real.

Ive done both car and bike theory and passed both first time. Hazard perception is the bit im allways on the limit with, not because i cant see the hazards but i strugle to get the clicks right.

Bike was 35/35 and car was 49/50. The car i hardly did any revising bar an hour or two buts thats because i have 18months or so on the road. When i did my bike theory i had the dvd's and the offical DSA book with all the questions. I practised every night two weeks before (few hours a night) aiming to not just pass the mock exam but get it perfect, i also took the book in at lunch time, coverd up the answers and went through the questions. By the time i did the test i sat down and went through all the questions with complete confidence. Make sure you do practise sessions rather than constant mock exams as you learn why your answer was wrong.

Other than that, dont let it get to you, revise and book again when you feel ready.

Failed the car one first time by 1 question, I put it down to zero revision.
Second time I aced it, and passed the hazard perception too.

Passed first time for the bike.

Have you tried the DSA Practice Theory Tests? You can try 2 for free as many times as you like and if you pay £6.99 take the actual tests on-line for 30 days. I found them very useful and I passed first time, but as I said at the time having driven for 20 years if I didn't know how to pass a theory test I really shouldn't be driving/riding, hope it helps. Thumbs Up

You would never be getting a licence in my world. Three strikes and you're out. To many inadequate individuals are granted a licence to ride/drive.

Passed both theory and practical first times for car and bike.

The theory test is ridiculously easy. I think I dropped a couple of points in my car and one in the bike.

Seriously, if you can fail it that many times then you're a cretin. Its not rocket science, just some common sense and a little memory.

First time car theory.

1st time theory, and 1st time practical.

I got a PC DVD program for the theory, can't remember who made it. It runs you through the exam just like having the test itself. Spent about 20 minutes in the evenings, for a few evenings a week to the run up to the theory.

At the day of the theory, I was the last one into the room to start, but I finished way before anyone else. I found the exam extremely easy, as the questions, were just like what was found on the Program.

Definitely a great help. I'm sure there are quite a few programs for the pc out there which do the same thing.

Passed first time for car, then failed first time for bike (despite the car one already being passed Confused ) and passed second time. Must have had an off day... though I didn't do any revision for the questions, only a little practice of the hazard perception. It's more of a test of "can you click at the right time" than "can you spot the hazards" to be honest.

The theory test is 80% common sense with a few highway code figures mixed in to spice things up.

I blew my theory away with a 100% score on the multiple choice and it was all down to careful revision and preperation.

First off, take a copy of the highway code into work/college and read it on your break.

Once your back home, beg/borrow/buy/steal a theory test disk that has the ability to break down your test results by category, I used the official DSA theory test for motorcyclists which suited this perfectly. Don't bother with the revision mode, just hammer away at practice multiple choice tests, after a good run of tests you'll have a fairly good idea of what areas of your knowledge need work, then simply put your bookmark in the appropriate section of your highway code for reading the following day.

A weeks worth of this and you'll likely find your breezing test runs. I've got a memory like a goldfish and I found I was gunning for 100% scores within 3 or 4 days Smile

If they still do the video hazard perception bit on the theory (i.e. you watch a video clip and click when you see a hazard) I found getting the hazard perception dvd to practice on was superb. Silly crap I never would have guessed you had to click for was much easier when the dvd reviewed the clip and showed where you had to click.

Other than that lots & lots of practice questions Thumbs Up

Never did one for the car but got 35/35 for the bike and 60/60 for the HGV test.

Just revise, most of it is common sense.

I passed first time on both car and bike, but I did only have to do the 35 question one and the (frankly useless) hazard perception.

I past 1st time, car and bike, with very little revision, but I've always got away with very little revision through school and stuff, some people can do it, others can't

Just because he's been unlucky and might have nerve problems or whatever, dosen't make him a cretin. Give the guy a break, and a bit of encouragement perhaps!? Not everyones bloody perfect
