Does anyone know where to find info on driving disqualifications? I have an employee who claims that this evening he has been disqualified from driving in the space of about half an hour. He was stopped for a bald tyre and then they checked his insurance and it had expired a month ago. He was given 9 points and lost his licence there and then. Fact or fiction?

Fiction.

He'd have to wait for a summons in the post, then go to court and providing it didn't get adjourned then he would get his ban.

It takes a few months for the whole process, I know, I've been there.

They could take the vehicle off you though.

You can get revoked at the side of the road if he was in his first 2 years of riding/driving it could have happened.

It happens

CIS insurance about 2 years ago now had 10000s of people who said yes to renewals, BUT CIS didn't take any money due to a technicality, many people thought they were insured but were not , CIS after about 2 months admitted to its mistake.

There was a local broker here who was selling motor insurance policies and pocketing the money himself. He just kept issuing cover notes and never got round to passing the information onto the actual insurance companies.

Vehicle is impounded and you can only get it back if you get it insured and pay the Impound and storage charge. If you don't collect it within a certain time it will be crushed.

The owner can also sighn it over to the police at the time of the incident if they wish to get it crushed thus( Wink ) avoiding the storage costs. Then it is crushed straight away.

So you paid someone for an insurance policy and never bothered to ask where is the new policy/certificate of insurance etc. until 10 months later?

The whole crushing of cars because they're uninsured or untaxed really annoys me. What a waste!

It's also fairly open to abuse, there was a case in a classic car mag about a year ago where some guy had his 60s Bristol worth £30k crushed because he had gone on holiday and someone had reported it as dumped. They only made a few hundred of that particular model, now there's one less due to this sort of dumb 'we want to make a point' policy-making.

They won't crush the vehicle if its worth something, they will sell it at auction.

Its a good method because before this came in uninsured drivers claiming they had insurance when they didn't were able to get back in there cars and drive off.

Theres too many cars on these roads anyway so scrapping a crappy car used by an uninsured driver is a good idea in my opinion.

I already had the policy and cover note - after which the cock-up occurred.

It does'nt matter if you sign it over or not, they store for a small period of time only, then they crush it anyway if you aint collected it, but you still avoid the storage cost's, it happened to me.

As for the no insurance I had no insurance for a mouth or so Embarassed as I did get reminder but was busy with so much in the house that forgot about it sorry for being human I do forget sometimes as I am not prefect
