And its proper annoying me know! Ive got a feeling its the spark plugs, i took them all out and theyr are black. I gave them a quick clean and put them back in with a charged battery. But to no avail. So if its not the spark plugs what else could it be. It nearly bumped before, but didnt sound like it had the balls too follow through.

So, ideas people?

Broken or loose HT leads? Saying that, you have put the leads back on the appropriate plug again haven't you.

Will it crank over and no spark or just lifeless?

Thats it, hit the starter. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt turn over, if it does, usually only for a second or two. Followed by backfiring. Then the battery dies. If you try bump it, it will turn over for a second or two. But it will not start.

Sounds a bit like my NTV about 4 months ago,

Starter relay issues? ,

should be connected pretty close to the battery , as SOME Honda charging systems go through it , me CBR600 and NTV are both close to the battery,

you can sorta test it by wiring it up and making it click, though I forget the exact procedure

me Haynes says

Ignition ON
Kill switch ON

Starter, should be heard to click (take the coils out to stop it firing up though I found)

or

Multimeter to Ohms x1 wire it up to a battery + to yellow/red wire in
- to the green/red wire

should read 0 ohms and click repeatedly and quickly.

duff starter relay is however good for one thing,

enourmous flames out the back of the exhaust, I had a 3-4 ft flame shoot out the back of the NTV and char the wall I parked next to black, when i had dodgy starter relay issues.

Don't think it'll be starter relay - mine went and because it's the first thing off the battery, then if it goes = no dash lights, let alone owt ont he button.

Carbs? Loose plug?

Thats not 100% true , it can be dead or dying , when the starter relay off mine was dying the other lights and stuff worked fine, when it finally gave up the ghost everything stopped working (like lights too).

i've had similar probs with my bandit 400. First time i got it fixed by my local mechanic who changed spark plugs and put the problem down to a mix of the duff plugs the ht leads wrong way round and kinked fuel line .
The next time it happened i managed to fix it myself . Changed the sparkplugs, again , to iridium ones and it fired up . I put it down to wrong plugs from last time which mechanic put in .
She now runs great and i cant wait for better weather .
