Have done a search and looked at pretty much every one of the comparison websites (bike specific and otherwise) people reccommended.

I was always under the impression there were more discounts available over the internet compared to phone. Since I suppose it's easier and cheaper for a company to organise so will encourage it?

But what do people find:

Is phoning individual companies cheaper?

In fairness i have never gotten insurance over the net before, but i am looking to insure a 600 Hornet/Bandit. 20 years old 3 points on a TS10 -Traffic Light convition, license for 3 years.

Confused.com coming up with cheapest prices (bout 700) at the moment but its still more than i expected.

Try both and compare- I've not tried phoning for bike insurance, but did both while trying to insure my car and got silly quotes off the net but a couple of decent ones from phoning people up. And the best one was from walking into their office and asking in person...

phoning wins...

i was quoted £594 by a company, i thought 'ooo' so clicked...
the website told me i couldnt get insured on anything above a 250cc.
so i phoned them, did the details, then i got a quote on a 600cc that was £549, they then whittled this down to £500.39.
this was the same company that said 'no above 250cc'.

the next quote up from this company was £7-800 odd Very Happy

phoning worked for me, cheapest I got on the Internet sites recently was just over 500 quid for an SV650. Phoned Express Insurance and got it for under 300 including breakdown and equipment cover.

Find the cheapest on the net then start ringing the other to see if they will better the price....

yeah phoning wins, i started with the internet companies and got quotes, then just used these as a base, i managed to get insurance for under 1/5th of what i was quoted on the internet, by playing one company off against another while on the phone Thumbs Up

I use the net to get several prices.

I then phone the company up who give me the best quote and say that another company has beat their quote by some considerable margin and ask if there is anything then can do about their quote. If the quote is then lowered [which it usually is] then its win win.

I usually repeat this a few times until I'm happy with the price. However, since I made a claim I always find out who the underwriter is. If it's AXA I refuse to buy the insurance. Whilst it doesn't hurt their profits in any way it makes me feel better, pricks! Evil or Very Mad

I go on the net and get some idea of the prices then get the phone out.

The price you are given on the net is final, you have no way of changing the quote etc.

On the phone you can get a price then say well i've been quoted cheaper from this company and they also include ........ in the policy. The person on the phone can then try and better the quote to get you as a customer.
