Ok folks, noticed a few days ago after coming home some coolant was dripping out the bottom, didn't think any more of it, thought it was breather hose, next day i noticed the temp gauge was on 111, looked down and the fan wasn't on, should come on at 105, then it shot up to 122!! Shocked

Got home sharply, there was still bit of coolant coming out, and its from the rad where there is a leakso i topped it up a bit, next day the temp was stiil shooting up, then my blade was revving high even with the clutch in and throttle off!!! even starting it after it not being used its revving up to 4000rpm.

Does anyone know if this is connected, had to leave the bike at work, these 2 things are worrying!

Thanks,
Baz.

Is there water in the system? have you checked the expansion tank? You should have stopped to check it as soon as the temperature went up dangerously high. You may have cooked the engine now and done some damage.

Get the leak fixed ASAP or get a new radiator fill the system with coolant and hope it hasn't done any damage.

The fan should come on before 105. That leave little time before overheat. But I have been wrong at least once before.

We set heavy diesel engines to shut down at that temperature. Fans cut in about 95.

As Fingers said, fix leaks and pray. If the rad is leaking it is possibly coz it's gubbed and not worth fixing.
Fix here today-leaks there tomorrow syndrome.
Look at a good used or new.

Stat jammed shut, water pump failed.
Wires got knocked of fan/temp switch. Fuse to fan gone.

It's 'Jive' for Thermostat.
Laughing Which is properly known as the 'Cooling System Temperature Regulator.'
It's a valve operated by piston sealed in wax filled chamber. When the coolant heats up to about 85 Deg the wax expands, moves the piston which opens the valve and allows the hot coolant to flow to the radiator. (And colder coolant to be displaced from the rad to flow to the water pump and then into the engine.
It's purpose, primarily, is to permit the engine to reach operating temperature quickly, then to regulate the coolant flowing through the engine and radiator during load cycles.
If it is stuck then the coolant cannot flow to the radiator and the engine overheats.

But your symptom is coolant leak which caused low coolant resulting in overheating.
