Air Filter Cleaning?

Hi everyone, i should really know how do do this i guess but ive heard so many different ways of doing it that all seem to contradict each other.

So if you could give your opinions or any tips on how to clean a K & N style filter it would be greatly appreciated.

You can get a cleaning kit from K&N with a mgical little book on how to clean it.

Petrol and re oil with K&N filter oil.

Thanks for the replies, i heard that i was supposed to use petrol to clean it and then coat in in oil but could somebody explain the process please.

Do i rinse it in petrol, or soak it? do i wait for the oil to dry or rinse the oil off ect
