Shocked Wow, guys, there's way too much information there for anybody to see: names, dates of birth, email addresses, first part of the postcode. Identity thieves are going to have a field day.

Yep, I wouldnt think twice about telling someone what bike i own, and what bike id like next on an internet site...

Postcode...yeah if theres letters theyre more specific i suppose, but we all entered locations (albeit rough) on a certain forum, didnt we?

Confused Wink

any bike thief can go to a bike meet, and follow someone home and nick their bike

i know not everyone goes to bike meets but i dont think putting info about yourself on the net is that dangerous

i reckon the most dangerous thing is when future employers might put your name in facebook to have a snoop

Name + part post code + quick electoral roll search = bike address (as stated above)

You can find my address from putting 'Mudskipper' and 'YO' into an electoral roll search? Wow. Wink

I changed my profile viewability to 'friends' only, same as I have for facebook.

Don't want any old losers seeing my naked pics...

I think we've all got a bit crazy paranoid about details on the net - yes we should exercise some caution, but like colin said someone can just follow you home.

When mine was nicked, I'm certain it was the local scrotes walking past who could see me taking the bikes out/putting round the back most days.

Very much doubt they looked on the internet and searched for my address.

How many of you paranoid people think about the paper trail you leave on this forum alone? Little snippets about who you are, what you do for a living, the shops, roads etc near you? Innocent photos with a background that a local would instantly recognise?

All put together, I think pretty comprehensive profiles could be built up about all but the most secretive of BCF-ers. Biker Book is no different, only you can manage exactly what information is seen and by whom, in one convenient place.

Again, Back to them knowing your address and potential future bikes...for example picture the scene:

*Sleazy bike theif browses targets on bikerbook*
'Hmm...Shame its just a small bike, Think i'll keep an eye on this one'
*Saves to favorites*
6 months later...
'Oh...a CBR600 now eh? Still at the same address too...'

You know the rest Sad

I'm not usually so paranoid but i'm at a point where i'm getting into more expensive bikes...Gotta exercise all the caution i can!

Your telling them all the bikes youve owned.

Sorry mate, but youre being a bit contradictory.

I understand your point, but after having our bikes stolen from under our noses when there was literally 95% of what could be there to stop them was there, Im now a firm believer in that if they want it, they'll fuckin take it. If theyre determined enough, they'll find something out or follow you, simple as.

Its wrong, but its the truth. As much as I dont want it to be.

Doesnt mean to say im going to advertise my whereabouts or anything explicit, and make it easier for them, but I sure as hell arent going to let the fuckers (Yeah, YOU, you peice o' shit thief who could be reading this) rule my life Thumbs Up

That's a fairly common mistake in software programming.

The site is using the number of seconds elapsed since Jan 1st 1970 as a time reference, as do all computer programs. Every time you update your profile, it updates the field in their database with the current number of seconds elapsed since that date.

Because the feature probably wasn't on there when these people updated their profile, it is set to 0 in the database for those people, which when the front end puts this into a readable format, calculates it as 38 years, which it is.
