I'm also about to finish my a-levels and briefly considered motorcycle engineering before deciding I wasnt brainy enough
just visit lots of university websites and see what courses they offer.I remember a couple offering courses specifically aimed at moto gp engineering and such like |

Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aeronautical Engineering (although this is more heavily weighted to F1 type racing and the like).
Think Cranfield do a Motorsport Engineering Degree.
I went to Bath to do Automotive Engineering, but flushed it down the toilet because I spent all my time smoking dope.
You need good grades to get into a good course - and MUST be strong in Maths, as it is very, very intensive on that front.
Good friend of mine whilst at uni has had a placement with a consultant company which works with MotoGP teams. I'm afraid I don't know which co. it was, or what teams. He is now doing a PhD to try and break into it.
Be aware, the numbers who want it vs the numbers who get it are very high, so you have to be exceptional, and willing to put in a lot of time, because there are hundreds of others who will. |

I'm in a panic in at the moment. I'm passing my A levels by an inch. My xmas report was: Physics C, Biology C, Maths C, Spanish B
I'm not worried about Physics. I'm improving a lot and I just have to get a few things right and study an entire unit (electricity) and i'm fine. Biology is just a matter of learning a lot of shit. Spanish I have an A, but I don't go to literature lessons yet cause I know I need very little time to perfect it. I do live in Spain and speak it fluently XD.
Maths is my nemesis. I used to be very good in GCSE. I gave in one of the 2 courseworks half finished, and still got a total score of 570 out of 600 UMS.
So the result was me underestimating A levels and not concentrating enough. I got behind a lot and I don't have the basic trigonometrical database in my mind. All the derivatives, integrals of sin cos tan cot sec cot etc are just not etched. And I really suffer. My mechanics is very good, but it's only a third of the final score. I really need to start studying maths from base one, NOW. P1-P4 in 3-4 months. It's gonna be hard...
On top of that my parents are sick of me not doing anything with my life and wasting time on stupid stuff, and I found out yesterday my stepfather has intentions to throw me out of the house as soon as I get a job!!! He's been urging me to take a gap year, which I am, and we're moving to a smaller flat soon. I have a really bad feeling about it. If they throw me out I'll have to get a job and pay for Uni by myself |

Go with Mech Eng & make absolutely sure that you do have a high degree of mechanical aptitude, ie, if they give you a test don't stick a screwdriver thru an eyeball or staple some article of clothing to yourself.
Here in the US the amount, per capita, of Engineers is .4%
Where I live it's 2.5% & the majority of them can't sharpen a fucking pencil (this is why the "mechanical pencil" was invented) or tie their shoe laces (which lead to the invention of loafers..)

I'm just reading the 2006 accounts. I must have read/compiled hundreds of these in my time, but this is the first set which include the word Bukkake. Fucking quality
Total respect to poppa Svedebo, that's one Accountancy position that is most certainly cool! |

Upwards of £30k? You'll be lucky. May get that if you work directly for a manufacturer ie. not in a dealership, but at a central base for that company doing designs etc.
Dealerships, be extremely happy to even get the work, most want several years working experiance, not studying experiance. Even then, be even more happy to see anything around £20k.
I know alot of people who used to work in dealerships and gave it up as they could make more money buying, fixing and reselling bikes themselves - or as mobile mechanics.
Thats why I never ventured down that path, ive personally heard too many bad testimonials. ____________________ Children in the back of cars cause accidents : Accidents in the back of cars cause children

One I know was a design engineer with a degree etc., gave it up because he didnt like how he was treated for the money he was paid.
Major manufacturers are the only ones who will want design engineers, but most are likely to source them from Japan at their design studios in Japan. Best bet would be triumph. Bear in mind as well that if you take a course designed for a specific sort of design e.g. bikes then other companies may not want you even if they require design engineers, such as car manufacturers.
Though I can suggest if you do want to do designing, with a relative good wage, look up dunlop aerospace - theyre round the corner from me and have just reopened their apprentice scheme, and one of the courses is the design of their products (all rubber / silicon based aero expendables). The GFs dad used to work for them till he passed away, and was on around £40k pa, he got the job by joining as an apprentice. ____________________ Children in the back of cars cause accidents : Accidents in the back of cars cause children
