Let me recap what happened

The saga of my ZX6R started off like this.

September 21st when i slid my bike coming home from work as the front end washed out. I slid down the road for about 10 yards unhurt, but the bike decided to aim for a car.

RESULT

After a 10mph lowside into a car, it ended up looking like this

https://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v143/10/100/500990711/n500990711_381987_38.jpg

Tastefully modified fairings Thumbs Up
https://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v143/10/100/500990711/n500990711_381988_318.jpg
Not quite the exxon valdez but i tried to warn loads of passing bikers about the oil, but they carried on blindly! A few stopped and asked what the problem was, bless Thumbs Up , but it meant the parked their bike up RIGHT where the greatest concetration of oil was. Kwaka engine casings are made of jacobs cream crackers!

https://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v143/10/100/500990711/n500990711_381989_649.jpg

Seeing that i hit the car on the side, how the hell did the arse get a tumble!!! Confused

https://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v143/10/100/500990711/n500990711_381991_1211.jpg

Bye bye Ninja boy

https://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v152/10/100/500990711/n500990711_406793_2709.jpg

Bike to car interface! Shocked Shocked

https://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v143/10/100/500990711/n500990711_381996_2478.jpg

Bike keeling over like a beached whale saying - nehheheerrrhrhrehrh nhehrhehehehrererer feeed mee with teh oil!!! So new exhaust and casing later - it was fine (my mate like a twat dropped the bike and scored the casing - pleb forgot to lower the sidestand!)

https://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v152/10/100/500990711/n500990711_406758_2776.jpg

A saturday morning spent stripping off parts - broken clip ons and indis and fairings

https://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v152/10/100/500990711/n500990711_406759_3044.jpg

https://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v106/10/100/500990711/n500990711_407357_2319.jpg

https://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v106/10/100/500990711/n500990711_407358_2666.jpg

It later transpired that i had a hole in my headers somewhere which caused the bike to blow in various places.

So, after a short bash at MCN ninjas, i found this.

https://photos-711.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v183/10/100/500990711/n500990711_590355_897.jpg

140 quid later i had a swona full titanium system which I was happy with.

Fiddling about and getting the baffles to fit for the MOT was a bit of a pain in the arse and one that I could have done without. I later found out that my headbearings were screwed, so off to get new head bearings fitted and passed the MOT.

Time for some fairings i think.

https://photos-711.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v183/10/100/500990711/n500990711_590353_73.jpg
https://photos-711.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v183/10/100/500990711/n500990711_590354_596.jpg

So as well as that, i decided to buy some other accessories. Knowing that i already had powerful lights on the bike in the form of philips Xtreme Power, I decided to give the HID's a shot.

https://photos-711.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v183/10/100/500990711/n500990711_590358_1990.jpg

Got them for 30 quid from diane-shop on ebay - H4 Bi-Xenons.

https://photos-711.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v183/10/100/500990711/n500990711_590359_2334.jpg

Goes to show how small the ballast is.

https://photos-711.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v183/10/100/500990711/n500990711_590360_2668.jpg
The bulb with its sliding mechanism that goes chunk chunk when you flip between hi-lo.

Some carbon parts

So Christmas came and went and i had the bike at the spray shop.

Today, it was the time for its return.

I was slightly disappointed with the numberboards but the rest of the paintwork is immaculate. Most of the expense was a result of removing the dent in my tank, and fixing fucked plastics - especially the rear panels where it had cracked (i got the panels for 40 quid a pair on ebay considering my original ones were destroyed) and the hugger which was fraying and cracking.

I'll let the pictures do the talking and leave the verdict out on the rear numberboard - i wanted it more like my ZXR250 but i gave this picture as a reference

https://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v162/10/100/500990711/n500990711_457051_1845.jpg

The result

https://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/10/100/500990711/n500990711_606395_2314.jpg
https://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/10/100/500990711/n500990711_606396_2605.jpg
https://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/10/100/500990711/n500990711_606397_2863.jpg

I suppose i can always go over the numberboard with vinyl and do it that way just to make it right, but i'm happy with it for the time being. The rest of the bike is ace.

Now it was time to fit the Eks E Nonz Wink

Finding a place to mount all the equipment became the main challenge since the wiring box needed to be placed midway between the ballast and battery. I had mounted the ballast beneath the lights in the nosecone,

Once again, i'll let the pictures explain what i did. It was a matter of just routing wiring and getting the right connectors. Unfortunately for me, they did not have the H4 connector supplied to go with the wire from the ballast so i just smashed the plastic and wedged the appropriate spades into the H4 connector.

https://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/10/100/500990711/n500990711_606399_3384.jpg

A bit of a mess I say

https://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/10/100/500990711/n500990711_606400_3657.jpg

Ballast out of sight under the clocks

How I bodged the H4 adapter onto the connector.

https://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/10/100/500990711/n500990711_606403_4491.jpg

6000K of luminescence. I will post night shots when it gets darker.

Anyway, glad to have it back, but i HAVE noticed some problems

The bike was a bitch to get starting again! A plume of white smoke came pouring out the rear - i assume because it's condensation vapour in exhaust and possibly the downpipes. It was a white-ish sort of smoke, followed by reluctance to idle correctly. I put in a full tank of fuel and just put it on choke for 5 mins. After getting it going, it was stuttering and whenever i released the clutch, it would die, so had to ride on choke for another 5 mins. I would suspect it was because of the remaining fuel prior to me filling up getting a smidge stale over the winter and a combination of the cold resulting in that. The sight glass in the oil has condensation in it. I'm not sure if i should get worried since it might indicate head gasket issues or just that it's considerably colder out here and that it hasn't been running for about 2 months.

My rear light doesn't work so i will need to test that out with a multimeter at some point to check if its a faulty loom - i seriously cannot be bothered to track back the wire and remove it, although i do suspect it might have something to do with the HID installation - i must look at my Haynes and isolate the problem.

Next project - Get some Hyperpro shock and progressive forks. Thumbs Up Mr. Green

It would have been 500 if it was just a straight up respray but i had cracked hugger and dented tank so it was 600 all in which i don't think is unreasonable seeing that the dent in the tank was a bit of a ball ache - left a 30mm dimple.

Yeah, i'll send my letter off to the DVLA next week - the bike WAS originally black before it got dropped by the previous owner!

I might think about polishing it, OR i could just hammerite the stone chips and get white rim tape because i ride through winter and don't have a garage, so living on a 3rd floor flat means that i can't always polish or wash my bike when i like.

I'm in the search of some black or silver leathers - brand preference - you should all know by now what brand it is!

Does anybody know any good vinyl cutters. IF i send the template of what needs to be cut and they'll do it - its just that i'm not happy with my numberboard- i wanted a sharp angle following the line of the bike - not a sudden drop!

Yeah, i was about to ask, put a poll - i guess it's conclusive that black is the better colour. It works so well, so understated. Well, i see it as the bigger brother to this thing

Well i have now discovered that it COULD be experiencing a possible valve or head gasket problem due to the white smoke/steam ONLY on the overrun. Shocked Bugger, new engine time it may seem or just a valve rebuild -whichever is cheaper!

Green is faster, and more correct.

But by 'eckers Titz it looks better in black than red mate Thumbs Up

You possibly gonna try and add more white, to make it even more like the 250?

Class man Smile Loves me zx6's. Mines so dirty atm Sad

Where did you buy the fairings from mate? I've been looking at replacing a few of mine when budget allows.

EDIT: Whats the mileage on yours titz? Mines a 99 with 20,000 miles now...you're making me worry, even though me bike runs smooth.

And Wave...Shush my child. You're scaring people. (Read, me)

Nah - black = subtle and timeless

Mileage on bike is 28k on a late 1996 plate. Has had valves done, camchain tensioner done etc.

Ninjas are known for popping head gaskets or should i say all kawasaki IL4's. - get onto MCN ninjas and you'll be surprised as to how common it becomes. The F model is supposedly meant to have a more reliable engine than the G Shocked

EDITED - NOT a head gasket failure as i suspected - temperature fine, coolant fine, oil fine, not a sight of contamination. I just got paranoid when i tested the symptoms in the dark.

Minimal coolants left in the coolant circuit - FUCK! EDIT - upon checking during the day, a small top up of distilled water - about 30-50ml and she was fine - didn't smoke up on start, idled but then started puffing smoke under a vacuum - so either on the overrun or on a closed throttle.

Time to spend another 300 quid then eh. ... don't know what's worst - knowing that the symptoms for head gasket are incorrect - i suspect it's a leaking valve! It's more money out and labour but it's like my main form of transport for when i'd be doing shift work in spring so i'd need it being tip - top. The oil and coolant levels

Killa - i took the design from your 7R, but they literally did what i did for the numberboard design rather then what i had in mind - but sod it, black ninjas are always nicer looking;.

I'm gonna get pics of the headlight covers with it - it does look mean from a distance, but utterly useless at emitting light!

Next phase - finding out why it's being a smoky bugger on the over run. After that - some dyno time

Then Suspension mods to come.

It's all the bike i want for the time being since it's soon becoming more of a weekend toy.

So after all that effort, the bike is dead! Shocked

The engine is terminal - it looks like it has decided to drop a valve and die! Ride at your own risk.

Fortunately for me,

I managed to get a 8000 miler from a ZX6R F2 in good condition for 250 quid delivered from bernies bikes. The bloke seemed genuine and i remember ordering a part from him which went missing, and then fully refunded me the costs - went missing in the postal strike.

Now, it's time to get the blasted thing fuelled and jetted correctly before i even attempt to fiddle with the handling. Such a shame but i was getting along with that bike. Never thought it would have died like that!

Oh well, lets say i have another 5 years of wear i can put onto the engine before it goes pop eh? Wink Very Happy

Good price for a new engine. I think you'd notice if it dropped a valve though...

It'd sound like the engine was gargling with nails and would feel very very weird.
