Hi there, Myself and a few (8-10 of us) want to rent a holiday cottage or house in cornwall for a week. However, Being that we are all 17-18, I fear there may be a problem in doing so. Does anyone know of any way we can convince people that we aren't going to smash things up, apart from offering a large cash deposit?

Plan is to go up there in 2 cars (and 3 of us on bikes) and just go explore the area and just chill away from home for a bit.

Any advice/thoughts on anything, or recomendations for anywhere in cornwall area would be nice

You will find that difficult, but not impossible. I know a group of my friends (smaller group- 7 I think) rented a really nice cottage just outside Newquay last summer. Crantock it was- little place, nice beach and stuff in walking distance, but a short drive from Newquay. We were in a caravan on the other side of town and compared it was totally shite, cheap though. Depends what your after really, we were quite happy with it being a bit crap. Avoid smuggler's haven caravan site in newquay at all costs though. Ours was next door and much nicer, although I cant remember what it's called.

My fave. part of Cornwall is Padstow, but thats expensive and as we found, a bugger to find somewhere for youngsters to stay.

Unless you come across a very VERY charitable and trustworthy home owner as a group of teens you've got as much chance of hiring a cottage as I have of growing a money tree on my left goolie unfortunately.

Have you thought about the camping option? Some great sites with superb facilities down there that cater for bikers Thumbs Up

Some of my friends, who I lovingly refer to as 'prissy whores' refuse to stay in a tent/caravan.

Its a fair option which we considered, but annoyingly girly girls seem to want to be in a brick building.

I rang up a couple of places, they all pretty much said that we could, as long as we left between 250-500 deposit in cash as a start for them to reclaim any loss. Fair enough, I know we arent going to smash everything up, but how can I be sure I'm actually going to get a deposit back.

More thinking is needed I think, but needing to book now really.

You can be sure that the owner/landlord will go over the place before and after with a fine tooth combs (they might even dust for prints!).

The problem that you're gonna have is that they'll intensify their operation purely because of your age. If you do manage to find a place that's willing to have you then be sure that it's not a dump before you agree to go there. I'm certainly not trying to be patronising here but if the landlord is willing to rent to a group of teenagers then it might not be the homely sort of cottage (log fire, Big Sofa's, Cooking Range, etc) that you've set your sights on if you get my drift.

Good Luck Thumbs Up

During the summer holidays we ( me, wife + 2 kids ) usually rent a holiday villa in Spain. Even there they ask for a deposit to cover any breakages. It'd be silly for them not to.
We usually pay around £100, so someone asking for £250 isn't too bad considering.

If you come across as a nice lot on the phone- polite, proper use of English and all that, they'll be more inclined to let ya. The fact that your a mixed group will help too- maybe even get one of the girlies to call?

Like I said, it's possible. Took a bit of searching but the cottage in Crantock me mates got was well nice, they had no trouble with the owners at all and didn't break anything more than a glass, which they replaced and got the deposit back no probs at all. Just have to hunt round and be prepared to call places.

Static caravans arent that different to cottages anyway, they are just funny shaped and the beds are too short. Could always just tell your girlies to man up a bit Wink

Well me and my mates (12 of us, 6 guys 6 girls) all did that last year, no problems getting it at all really. Only had a £70 as well, so it was all good.

We got a place in bude.. just be careful not to do what we did and end up totally lost in the middle of nowhere, meant we needed a couple of taxi's for nights out.

Not sure where you are going, where you are coming from, or what route you are taking, but this is a fantastic stretch of road.

Its the other side of the coast to where we would be, but I'm sure me and the others on bikes could 'get lost' and accidently find it.

The other issue we have is that one of the people going refuses to use cars, but he has a virago 250, which is going to get very very dull going bloody slow the whole way there.
Does 75 downhill with him on it, and he will probably be two up most of the way Neutral

Fool child.
Thanks for the advice,

I've been to bude, looked into that area, and will deffo get one of the girls to ring up instead of me.

Its really worth it, my cameras crap and I didn't really get round to taking photos but a couple of shots from along the way, doesn't show the roads but shows the views that you get all the way along, they are just ace.

Here and here.
