I used to walk down that road many a time, pissed out of my skull, it's an unlit country road and takes about an hour or two to until you see civilisation again.

Anybody feel like doing me a favour and explaining the basic bits of the Scientology thing to me please, im reading all this and watching the vid's and havn't actually got a clue why this "Anonomous" group and most of BCF are so against scientology, what are their key values etc that are so bad to get so much hate?

I've tried wiki and google but it all seems like rambling to me

Scientology was invented by the Science fiction writer L Ron Hubbard. He is on record as saying that the easiest way to make a million is to start a religion.

Scientology demands money from its followers, insists that they cut off all ties with non scientologist family and friends, and hounds anybody who publicly says they are a bunch of nutters with constant surveillance, lawsuits and other nasty shit. Low level scientologists are treated like shit by the higher ups, and if they want to leave it is made extremely hard for them.

I think Scientology is a ruse to empower the super wealthy. I refuse to believe that the very rich believe in the shit that Scientology is about. However what you do have is a massive group of super wealthy people, in an organisation with many members, which in effect gives them significant political clout.

I think its a means to grasp at power, like the masons, under the guise of 'religion'.

right well after my last post in this thread i did a little research etc... and after reading some of that enturbulation website and alot of things on scientology i've kind of come to a conclusion that they're both as bad as each other, they seem to be working against each other with completly different goals but in a way achiving the same thing.

For a start both groups seem to be made up of sheep (obviously not literaly), people that /need/ to follow somebody, i guess they feel they need to be guided, half the members on that enturbulation forum seem like they just jumped on the bandwagon, just wanted to come along for the ride and got brainwashed somewhere along the way, alot like scientology.

Both groups seem to point an accusing finger at anyone who /dares/ question them, check out the "wall of shame" on enturbulation, there is a member called Dex1182 who seems to have everythread he posts jumped on by site admin and other members all willing to accuse him of being a scientologist imposter, when from an unbiased (my) point of view he has done nothing to suggest he is anything but a perfectly rational person and not perhaps not as willing to tag along and follow the leader like the other members.

I agree that scientology is a very messed up cult on steriods, a small trend that somehow grew into a religion but while trying to work against scientology annonamous seem to have gone off the rails somewhere, they need to be welcoming new people and explaining there point of view not accusing anybody who questions them of being a scientologist!

Hi C, I've been having a similar debate with Matt on my MSN, and you have some good points.

I havent really looked at any of the website apart from plymouth specific bits, and end reports of other towns, but it is a shame if people wont listen to an impartial voice (or for that matter, even a devils advokate.)

I dont know about following the leader, or being sheep, but yesterday in Plymouth I had a really good time, a great atmosphere mostly and no one person trying to controll anything.
Some aggressive leafletting from one or two people, which if I was a pedestrian, would have me put it straight in the next bin without looking at it, but other than that ~ 80% of the people that walked past seemed interested to find out more, or already disliked having the CoS in their town.

And that was why I went out really, I dont want a dodgy American cult having its own building in my town.
