I'm sure I remember someone on here mentioning a while back that they were a driving (car) instructor? I was wondering if said person could identify themselves, or if someone could tell me who they are. Just a wee question - I'm sitting my car test in a few weeks and wanted to know about the 'show me tell me' questions...

thanks Smile

lol Laughing

If you ask your instructor he should be able to run through them with you, I can't remember what they were on my car test, and hgv ones which I do remember are totally irrelevant.

I would imagine they're very very obvious questions which are common sense along the lines of, how would carrying passengers and luggage affect the cars ability to brake.

How might towing a trailer affect the car's handling.

Show me how you would check the condition of the tyres.

Basically they're thing you would've covered in your theory test, mostly very obvious ones.

The car test, I think it's either show them where you'd fill the oil up or where you'd fill the washer fluid. And the tell me is stuff about adverse weather conditions, etc. If you fail at the show me tell me point I'd be quite suprised. Karma

Its also only a minor if you get a question wrong... might turn into a major if you get all 3 wrong though! My instructor literally just ran through the questions 30 minutes b4 my test and again before I went into the test centre.

Oil, water, lights, brakes, all simple questions that you'll find hard to get wrong, good luck Thumbs Up

Things like 'Where would you check the oil' (point to dipstick).

And 'How would you check your brake lights are working' - reverse up near a wall and press the brake pedal (yes, believe it or not, this is the right answer).

Fairly common sense.

yes he's gone through them - don't get me wrong, he's a really good instructor. I just always like when there are questions to answer to be able to go over in my own time what they are looking for. Which is better I do myself rather than at the £20/hr rate! Smile

I took my car test last week and got asked where the windscreen washer resevoir was.

I pointed to the one with the windscreen wipers on it and waffled on.

Thats the only q i got asked except 'how would you use the horn.'........... Cool

How did you get on? Was it easier than you expected, or about what you thought it would be?
