I have found when i have purchased a new bike for my local dealership i have left the building feeling conned into things i dont need and i hate that because buying a new bike should make you feel great.

Back to the point anyway my worst experience was when i had a accident and they took the bike anway to do estimates the kept the bike for approximatley a couple weeks and they charged me £540 just for storgae before i could have the bike back not including estimate charge and labour.

Anyone else got a bad ones?

ESB , I specifically asked for a part , they said yeah yeah, I asked again before they tore the bike apart, they called me up an hour later saying I needed that part.

They tried to charge me for THEIR mistake too.

Banbury Motorcycles.

For always trying to sell me a damn SV every time I walked through the door.

They went into administration in the end.

Motorcycles Unlimited in Perivale.

As a newb, they sold me a bike in a dangerously bad condition, disguised to look smart.
The steering lock didn't work, but I didn't really pay any attention to it at the time. Turned out that's because someone had tried to steal it at some point, and in the process had fucked the wiring loom.
This, I later found out, was the cause of the bike losing all power on occassion. Luckily it always happened when I was upright, but it could have been deadly.
Not only that, but downpipes with a hole in, fork seals that started to leak oil over my front brake disc weeks after I got it, almost impossible to start if left standing for more than a day, fuel gauge that didn't work, clutch full of shit making it painful to operate the clutch over any real period of time...
And then they tried to charge me £150 to fix the fork seals - like fuck.

I only managed to get £500 for it when I sold it a couple of months later, when I'd paid £1200.

It is a well known fact that Motorcycle Dealers have a long and distinguished tradition of discouraging biking. Shocked Rolling Eyes

I bought a brand new MZ Baghira of a company in Edinburgh called Moto-Cal. Small company. They were very helpful, did their best to get me the bike in the colour I wanted and sourced a few non-standard parts for me.

Heard about a year later that they had been bought out by a company called Alvins. I remember thinking at the time "I hope nothing goes wrong with my bike because Alvins customer service is famously shit.".

Few months later, engine went bang in a major way (conrod snapped at 85mph). Had it recovered to Alvins.

After four months of evasiveness, failure to return calls and outright lies (I KNOW they didn't even bother stripping the bike for the first two months). I finally got it back. Lies such as "It needs a spare engine but MZ UK don't have any." when I'd called MZ UK earlier that week and found they had a complete engine on the shelf ready for immediate dispatch.

It took me getting trading standards involved to finally put a rocket under their arse. They even had the audacity to look miffed when I went back to pick it up and merely took the keys and rode off without thanking them (then stopped 30yds up the road to tighten the clutch cable, nip up the handlebar clamps and adjust the chain).

So, they were shite, they went bust and I have no sympathy whatsoever. It is something they brought upon themselves, after you bought a new bike off them, they didn't want to know.

where i "used" to take my bike in Thailand.

First thing they do is drain your tank of petrol, everytime

Over filled with engine oil by a liter, had to drain it at home by leaning it over. Next time i got it changed i told him not to over-fill it Rolling Eyes had to drain about 750 ml to get it down to top of dip-stick.

Fork seals replaced- vice clamp marks on my shiny USD forks and cracked one of the mudguard mounts.

Electrical problem- starts digging the test probe into the wiring loom checking for faults. Still plagued with electrical issues. Neutral

came back another time, fairing were hanging off, lucky they didn't drop done and drive over them..

The ducati dealership next to Vauxhall tube station.

Went in with the intention of booking a test ride on (the then new) 749, the salesman was cool and said, 'yeah go and have a look at the one on the stand,' so I did and promptly got shouted at by the little oik for walking over the floor he'd just washed.

I promptly turned on my heels and went straight out the door.

Worst experience would probably have to be the Aprilia place around here, which is a different dealership to where I bought the bike from.
Anyway, got the bike serviced and he comes out with the cocky comment of "Even though you didn't buy the bike here we'll still service it for you". Never been back since as seemed a bit of an arrogant unprofessional attitude to me.

Local Kawasaki place I go on the other hand is good. Prices for repairs/servicing might be a wee bit on the expensive side but customer service is good and the bloke is friendly to you when you go in there. Does have a habit of trying to get me to upgrade the bike but I can just about resist... Also seems to always remember me by name Laughing

Motorcycles and Moore in London Colney: Took an NC30 out for a test, died after about a mile with electrical problems, left me stranded by the roadside for 45 minutes despite me ringing them up, claimed they 'couldn't find me' - eventually got the bike to start again and returned it to them. The salesman actually had the cheek to ask me how much deposit i wanted to put down on the bike!
Another time i got called an idiot for asking for a can of Silkolene spray oil for the air filter on my MX bike - 'Naah mate, you don't put oil on air filters, you must be an idiot, who told you that?'. After a brief and vocal slanging match, another customer wandered over told them that they were idiots who didn't know what they were talking about, and gave me the name of a place that would sell me it.
Wandered in there another time to pick up some earplugs (didn't have any!) to be greeted by another vocal slanging match taking place outside the shop - a bloke had taken the day off work, booked his R1 in there for a service + MOT - not only did they not do the service or MOT, they also left his bike on the pavement outside the shop all day with the keys in the ignition!
At the time they were the closest shop near me, so i only ever used them for convenience, now i never go near the place!

Colin Collins in Letchworth - took a KTM Duke out for a test, died after a while - no petrol, tank already on reserve. Waited 45minutes for them to bring a can of petrol out to me, in that time i had decided i didn't want to buy the bike anyway, as during the wait i had nothing else to do but thoroughly look over the bike and pick out all the faults with it.
Booked a test on a K5 750, made a point of asking them to make sure there was some petrol in it after the previous fiasco. 'Yes, no problem sir'. Got to the end of their road and the fecking petrol light came on! Turned straight around and gave them the bike back - then went out and bought one as a private sale.
Thankfully they have now gone bust - not surprising really.

Twist & Go in Hatfield - only ever go there for MOTs as it's the nearest test centre. The little wanker that runs the place always makes out he's doing you a favour by doing the MOT that you are paying him to do.
Miserable little cunt, how i'd love to plant my fist squarely in his weasely bearded face! (Only trouble is i'd then have to find somewhere else to get my MOTs done)

West Coast Suzuki, i gave my bike in for a service and a repair job. needed a new head, valves and a few other things. I gave them the Keys and Service book and then they gave it to a Kawasaki Dealer without telling me Shocked . 5 Weeks later the bike still hadn't been fixed and after numerous phone calls and visits i contacted Head of Technical of Suzuki GB, approx 1 hour later i got a call from the suzuki dealer telling me they got the bike back and were getting their chief mechanic on it. it took another 4 weeks for the problem to be resolved (9 weeks in total). The Kawasaki dealer has since closed and the Suzuki Dealership lost its dealership status Laughing

The local BMW dealer is known as the house of snob. If you aren't 50+, fat, grey and gay, they don't want to have anything to do with you. I've never stood in a shop, pawed merchandise for 20 mins, and be completely ignored. I don't think many retired, fat-fags are in the market for a motard like the G650X Moto, but I sure won't be buying. The bike sucks compared to the KTM 690, anyhoo.

gear4bikes.com - they threatened to take me to court cos I called them a bunch of wankers on here. Its not yet happened cos they're all too busy furiously masturbating.
Infinity Motorcycles - They fucked up my TL thou when doing some work on it then were very unwilling to fix their fuck up but did eventually. Bah, never did get to ride it when fixed though. Sad

Then there's the Mitsubishi cases but those don't involve bikes.

Blays in twickenham, for there general dumbness of ordering me the wrong parts and be so unknowlegable about anything in regards engines and then told me i picked out the engine numbers Laughing

they have now had to downsize dramatically and make half there staff redundant. Also there top mechanic use told me that everyone use to charge double VAT on anyone they didnt like the look of. Evil or Very Mad

Also the general behaviour of alot of young staff in motorbike shops who tend to think that because they are working in a motorbike shop that they automatically know 10x more than anything about bikes more than you.

recently got a qoute from suzuki for some foot pedals for my standard rearsets. when he qouted me over £150 for the pair not including the hanger or anything else I told him that I ould buy some aftermarket rearsets for less and he quite rightly told me I was very wrong.Laughing Laughing

I bought a pair of 2nd harris rearsets the next day for £120 Laughing Laughing OK not technically new but there were many gilles thailand replicas for £130 and basic sets for £100 from SES all on ebay.

Some very touchy hardcore bikers on here! Laughing

Perth Motorcycles, in, Perth, funnily enough.

Bought a 4 year old Thundercat off them, took it back for its first service (during my ownership) and they serviced and found out it needed new C&S. Fair enough.

I come back later in the day to pick her up, bearing in mind I dont have a clue about bikes at this point...

Them - "problem with the output shaft sir"
me - "oh??" (one of those looks that say "ehhhhh?")
them - "do you know what an output shaft is?"
me - "not really"

So they explain it to me, and I'm still not sure, or aware of the importance of everything there being ok.

They tell me there was a problem with it, but they have spot welded it and it should be ok.

As above, bear in mind I aint got a clue. "ah, ok, so what happens next time I need new C&S?"

Greeted with one of those giggles that are more like a shrug.

"So what about when I want to trade it in? You'll hold that against my bike and give me bottom dollar for it"

"we'll work something out"

So, off I go, still unaware of just how important the output shaft and front sprocket is.

About 2 or 3 months later, me and the guys are in the lock ups and I have the bike up on the paddock stand, rear wheel spinning gently in 1st gear cleaning the chain. My mate walks over and sees something not quite right with the wheel or chain.

"how f***ing slack is your chain?"
"its not, I just adjusted it a minute ago"
"move! let me see"

The difference someone knowing wtf they are doing makes...

He has a look, and asks me isnt this just a new chain? "aye" and I then go on to explain about what the guy in Perth had said...

The startled look on his face immediately made me concerned, as did him saying "what?" in increasing volume about 4 times.

So off comes the fairing and the front sprocket cover, and as this is removed the front sprocket nut falls onto the ground. Mates face is a picture.

He touches the front sprocket with his finger and it immediately falls off the end of the output shaft.

What happened was, somehow the threads on the end output shaft were fubar'd, and rather than them admitting to having just sold me a duff bike and cough up for an engine strip, they spot welded the little folding nut cover (whats its name?) onto the nut, as where the cover touched the shaft the threads appeared "ok", so I assume they felt this would have held everything in place.
Needless to say it didnt, and I could probably say I'm lucky to be here.

My mate wanted to go and kick seven colours of sh*t out of him, but as a few months had passed I felt it would be my word against theirs, and they are a well thought of dealer up here. Havent been back since, nor am I ever likely to.

It's now the Bike Pavillion, Colin Collins may have gone, but the same attitude is still there, must be something about the building.

Petite and france in Redcar surprisingly!

Went in looking around as you do and we get talking about my restricted licence. Whilst trying to sell my a new motorbike which I coudent afford anyway I said to him id restrict it myself as I dont wanna pay 200 quid for some crappy bit of paper.

He then goes into how FI are the only legal way of restricting bikes and the washers ive just bought off ebay are aparently no good.

I agree with the sentiments about Colin Collins and or Bike Pavillion.

I had nothing but problems at Colin Collins in Letchworth when I put my bike in for a service and MOT. Mad

I now use A&M Motorcycles on Works Road - I find them much better. Smile
