I am perusing the Job centre website, and it seems they have all gone doo lally.

You need A levels, O levels and bloody spirit levels to load vans these days, you cant clean a bog with out two million years experience in a supervisory role, wanna work in a pub?.......not without having owned one you dont. Some call centre jobs doing nothing but TELESALES in a bloody office full of over qualified rich mummy's boys fresh from uni require a bloody driving licence!....has the world gone mad?

Welcome to Nu Labours UK. Where a trade will earn you far more than a degree ever will, but we're still encouraging the majority of our teens to take on a mortgage size debt to receive a degree in Media Studies then only be qualified to work as a call centre earning under 20K a year.

God our country is going down the shitter.

I don't ever think that existed. It used to be the best connected person for the job, now its the worst of the ethnic, coloured, gay and disabled bunch who get the position as their the ones with the most leverage for a law suit should they get refused the job Laughing .

Trouble is, it's too easy to get qualifications these days. GCSE's arent a problem for anyone who can be arsed to pay attention, A levels, well you just go to college and again, if you can be arsed you'll do well enough to get on some poncey uni degree, and if you dont, well you just go back and do it again... Then you find that your poncey course only allows you to do a poncey job, as everyone knows a media studies degree is practically meaningless... but 'cos these kids have a degree, they'll get the job over someone who hasn't.

That's a bit hypocritical of me as a uni student, but at least I'm doing a real course. I strongly considered doing my A levels then going straight into work and try and work my way up the ranks by actually doing a job and learning through experience instead of teaching, but decided against it for exactly the reasons you've posted- it's damn hard to get a good job unless you've got a degree... T'is stupid.

Bull and shit.

Anyone who ever says it's hard to find a job just isn't willing to do the work.

I'm doing a degree mate- I'll let you know how I get on in 3 years time...

I came to that conclusion having spoken to several people who have a lifetimes experience in the engineering industry- people at Rolls- Royce, BAE Systems and another local engineering company. When I asked if I should try and get a job in engineering straight from school or go to uni, all said go to uni without a moments hesitation. So that's what I did. I wasn't just making it up. By get a job I don't mean grease monkey in a local garage or summit, I'd like to get into one of the big engineering firms with some prospect of moving up the ladder if I get the chance and yes, do the work. I was told that wasn't gonna happen without a degree in engineering, which is why I'm in the first year of a mechanical engineering degree.

I left school with 6 A-C GCSEs. Never finished A levels and they didn't give you half-way AS levels in my day.

Doing ok in software testing now and hoping to move on to somewhere with a few more opportunities some time soon.

Im 18 and now have a full time job as a PC engineer.

You know what qualifications i needed to show the company?

None.

So totally agree with Shaun. The kind of people who complain are the kind that send 100 CV's off and cant be arsed to do anything else exept wait for a reply which they wont get.

I have a job so I aint particularly that bothered, but eddie thats wank mate.

Do you suggest people dont send off CV's?

Just do the work?

So turn up somewhere, walk in start working? Great plan.

I didn't mean well paying jobs or careers, but to look at some of the things employers want for unskilled jobs is quite comical and stupid at the same time.

Some telesales jobs want a degree! a fucking degree for telesales, i used to do telesales and made some really good money at it, but I stopped when the firm got shut down for fraud Mr. Green

Well I agree you don't have to have qualifications to get a job. I have had loads of great jobs and don't have a qualification to my name. I even interviewed poeple in old jobs and was told its not the qualification's. To be honest I didnt want to give someone with degrees, qualifications a shop job they where over qualified. I worked also on Nursing homes without NVQ's (until they made that the law last year) its exspericance, good head and wanting to work hard that you need. Not directed directly at you gov just saying. I do know what you mean Marks and spencers ask for all passed GCSE's for a job to stack shelves.

But, does it work the same over here as it does where you are?

I don't know, but there must some differences or you would be called England.

I cant suggest shit as i know fuck all about the working world, im only 18. But in my limited experience, if i know theres a job going ill walk into the store wearing my normal clothes with a CV, and just be myself. Worked in my last 2 jobs.

Makes sense as i had a discussion with my boss the other month, and the fact he likes people who come in, are themselves and completly honest.

Shit, i could just be lucky. Embarassed

And to add to my post, when we recieve CV's, we pass them to the owner who then glances at them then goes into the bin. *shrug*

I've got myself a decent job with decent prospects and my education hasn't helped me with it in the slightest.

Last year our old saturday lad finished his agricultural engineering college course (NVQ, I think) and walked straight into a job with the Bentley warranty department. He now spends his days pulling apart £100,000+ cars without so much as a day at Uni.

Maybe your right not sure. But we are under the same rule. Only thing is now you need to not speak English for a job here now. It is a lot harder than it was a few years ago. I look for my brother for a job and our job center went from having pages of jobs to like 2 in the city area Shocked papers the same 4 pages of jobs is now one section of bricklaying jobs wrote in polish. Its not impossible to get a job with no qualifications, personality goes a long way to. Also not speaking English helps Laughing

Are the jobs all gone in England to? Micky Dee's no one speaks English either . Crying or Very sad

Yeah and that is how most of my jobs have worked out, but the point I am making in this thread is that employers are now asking for stupid qualifications or requirements for jobs that clearly don't need them.

Ie: warehouse monkey, must have two years experience and checkable history.

Job entails, picking orders.

I have done lots of this in the past, it requires 5 minutes experience, you see an item on a list, you go and get the item.

See what I mean?

It is entirely possible I was wrong- and of course it's probably only relevant to engineering, if it's relevant to anything at all. I've never tried to get a job, 'cept stacking shelves in my local co-op on a saturday, so I guess I'm in a poor position to comment anyway. I'm just going by what I was told by other, more experienced people than myself in the sort of jobs I'd like to be in someday.

Sounds like I'm talking bollocks so I'll shut up now Laughing

That's because call centres do either customer services or sales. Aint rocket science. Any other job description comes under a different job title. Wink

It's probably down to employers freezing-out UK nationals who want at least minimum wage, so they can give the jobs to immigrants who'll work for less. All part of Zanu-labour's new work policy.

Well obviously telesales is in an office, I was making a point that they want a driving licence, you tried to be funny by making it look like I was shocked telesales was done in an office, but it never worked.
