Hi need some advice really.
Basically I'm trying to find my dad a honda superdream for his birthday. Preferably 250 as it will be his first bike.
Well I have no idea whatsoever about these bikes, whats the difference between the cb250 and the superdream. Could I buy a cb250 and change the tanks would they fit?
What sort of price would I be looking at for one.
Cheers Steve

CB250 superdreams are worth fuck all, and are bloody invincible.
the CB250 and the dream are near enough the same, so a tank would swap straight over i think.
it was deemed a low powered 250cc at the time, your much better off with the CB400 superdream... a bit more expensive, but its worth it. you get around a 110mph top end, with MUCH more torque.
the CB250 will struggle for 90, and wont like cruising at 70 (ive had both).
you could probably pick up a fairly decent one for about £300
£400 for a CB400 dream.
basically, invincible, great value for money, but nothing special on performance.
you could probably replace the oil with liquid soap and it would still whack out a good 10,000 miles.
the one i had had 62000 miles on it, and was still starting and running well (other than a revving problem but i think that was due to cam timing) ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Well its for my dad whose 48 next birthday, only ever ridden my 50cc geared bike with mighty top speed of 40ish, so i think the 250 would be better for him. will be his first bike so I doubt he will be too bothered about performance, if he is he can sell it and have my 400 and I'll upgrade.
Out of interest what happened to yours then your not too far from me. ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com

Brief summary:
CB250 K-series. late 1960's, total flying machines, rare as rocking horse poo.
CB250 G5. Mid 1970's, total piece of shit with self-destruct cylinder head.
CB250 T. Late 1970's. Mildly less shit.
CB250 N. Early 1980's. What people think of when they talk about a superdream. Universal Japanese bike, cheap transport for the masses. As long as you keep on top of the camchain, a very robust motorcycle. Famously average. Ask 10,000 people what they want out of a motorcycle, try to please all of them and you get the superdream ie. not quite what anyone had in mind but gets on with its job in an inoffensive and efficient manner. As such, they were inexplicably popular and well liked.
CB400N. EXACTLY the same as the 250 but with a bigger top-end. The 400 is generally regarded as a better bike. Not significantly faster but more reliable.
CB two-fifty. Similar engine, lower state of tune, curvier tank, slower, lardier. While the CB250N is famous for being average, the CB two-fifty is just average. Probably more efficient and reliable but just missing that certain something that sees them plod on into a life of efficiently and reliably being ridden into the ground by dispatch riders.
EDIT: Honourable mention to the CB250RS which isn't a superdream. It's a twin-port single cylinder bike. They were really well liked in their day, nice to ride, sound great. Given a choice between a superdream and an RS, I'd take the RS. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. i sold it to RXS_100 chris on this very forum.
who is actually selling it!
look him up, i think he's after around £250 for it.
although it has been bodged for the MOT... and could do with a top end gasket replacement due to badly tightened head bolts by the look of it.
he's in exeter i think, so even more local to you
ill do the same offer to you that i did him, ive got a CB250 superdream you can have any parts you need for it.
the top end rebuild wont be difficult as its a very simple engine, and full gasket sets go for £40 on ebay. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. as stinkwheel says its worth having a look for an RS, much lighter and better handling, great ride and great torque.
Cheers

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance. |

Stinkwheel, I was just about to pull you on the lack of RS, before I saw your edit at the bottom!! ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS
