Buying from eBay US

Holy shit, bored as fuck trawling the web and had a light bulb go off in my head and had a look on ebay.com ...and what with the dollar being so shite at the moment, could make a serious killing on an exhaust system.

1) Who has done this before?
2) Did you encounter any problems?
3) Do you get screwed on customs charges?
4) Is there a way of signing up for ebay.com using your ebay.co.uk user ID therefor keeping your feedback score/etc

Not just custom charges, but postage costs.

Was gonna bid on a Logitech Steering Wheel for the PC. On ebay US they are only £35, compared to £70 over here.

Was gonna cost £80 to ship though.

The ones I'm looking at seem to be saying $75 to the UK, which is what, about £38!

And about £170 for the can ...sheeeet.

I may have to indulge in a full system then.

Main point you need to remember is VAT and import duty. Before ebay most companies would mark the parcel as a gift and put a low value on the postage form, but customs are wise to this now, so budget to be charged import duty and tax at 17.5% on the item value. In my experience the total duty payable is only the 17.5%, but it still adds up, especially as they often include the postage cost in the value.... Then if it's inspected the courier wil charge you a repacking fee, usually about £10.

However it can still all work out a lot cheaper aslong as you factor these costs in when you buy. I've bought bike parts from there before and saved hundreds, recently bought some updated rear light clusters for my Pontiac cheaper than I could get them here, if at all, and postage was only $42.

I've bought stuff from the US before, I bought an iTrip when they were illegal to sell over here.

That didn't cost too much to ship was about £10 IIRC, and I have ordered Mac bits from eBay US, and they cost about £15 shipping.

At no point were any my goods stopped by customs, must be the luck of the draw?

best things to do, : Contact the seller first to confirm they will actually post to uk and how much

Politley ask them when they send to make it on the forms as a gift under $50.

Bought my simpson raider from ebay.com. Over here at the time was 550 quid and bought it for 285 delivered!

Will be looking at buying a full muzzy exhaust system at some point as can get hold of one for 175 over there with about 50 pounds postage (cheap compared to here, always good)

I've bought loads from Ebay US and other countries and nothing has b0een stopped by customs.

I've even sold items to other countries.

As a price guide, a CD will cost $8-$15 to post to England.
