I had an operation as a teenager on my left leg to stunt the growth of the fibula because it was growing faster than the tibia. This was bad, as it could have ended up with my feet rolling off of the side of my ankle!
My left foot is now not so flat, however the inner part of the ball of the foot doesn't touch the floor very well, probably due to the operation.
My right foot has some arch, but not very much.
When I was a kid, I started with insoles to correct my growth, but they weren't drastic enough so I ended up with plastic heel cups in my shoes to try and sort it out. It didn't work all that well, and hence they had to operate.
If you've got flat feet and you've stopped growing there probably isn't a great deal they can do about it, apart from give you insoles (which will only help, they won't correct the problem) or major operation like having a chunk of bone removed somewhere.
I'm crap at running, I always have been and I always will be, but it doesn't stop me doing other stuff such as martial arts etc.
I'm lucky in that the worst of my problems was corrected while I was growing, but it was caused by something other than 'just being flat footed' so I suppose it was potentially more serious. I still have other issues such as my left forearm is shorter than my right one by about 2cm, and I have bony spurs all over my joints, especially my knees and knuckles.
Apparently there are people who have the same disorder I have who are much much more deformed, so I actually count myself lucky.

I have been told I have flat feet. This was by an army doctor. I couldn't say as I have ever noticed a problem.
I'm shit at running but I consider that to be mostly for the same reason as I'm shit at ski-jumping.
