Hi all, apologies for lack of literacy talent and subsequent boring story.

I just need to vent a few things really and as I’ve only had my bike since Christmas I don't want to tell family etc. as they will get stressed.

It started on Friday as I was driving back to my office after a site visit when I got shunted in the back of my car by an idiot in a 4x4 when approaching a roundabout on a dual carriageway. Saw her not looking but had nowhere to go so braked as gently as possible, but still got hit.

Not impressed.

She made as if to stop on the roundabout, which I was not going to do. Rush hour + dual carriageway = blooming dangerous

Anyway long story short she followed me slowly to a lay by, then sped off! I failed to get her plates as it didn't cross my mind she wasn't going to stop. Evil or Very Mad

Not a huge amount of damage and as it’s an L-reg Rover 414 I can fix it. But I figure if she gets away with it this time then when she has a serious crash then she will just bugger off again. I reported this and the police say that there is nothing they can do unless she also reports the incident Brick Wall

I change the rear passenger wheel to stop the bumper rubbing all the rubber off my good (basic Michelin) tire and put on my spare.

Get home, fix bumper bracket, and start feeling less angry, just lucky that I've got away without injury or any expense to my car!

This morning I was having a good run to the office, early, following a lorry down the twisty Suffolk roads, wishing I was on my bike, when the car decides to spin. Now this scared the hell out of me. I've been driving for almost 5 years and never spun a car. I’ve taken this corner faster and didn’t see any mud or oil on the road. The car didn't give me any warning, it just went. I was bloody lucky. Nothing coming the other way, and I managed to kind of hold it and just did a 180 slowly meeting a bush, so again no damage!!

I was a little worried that maybe my suspension was bent, but when taking the ditchfinder off the back and putting my real tire on I had a good look at it and am pretty sure it’s ok. So must just have been the different tire giving unbalanced grip.

/ramble

Basically I have learned a couple of lessons so thought I’d share as I’d much rather learn from other’s mistakes.

1. Pay attention to distances behind me when driving my car as much as I do on my bike.

2. Decent tyres make all the difference, unbalanced wheels ruin everything.

you have an FX CBR right? , don't worry they are easy to fix , mine survived a 100+ crash (so did I)

BUT

Make a FoI request for local council CCTV , and see if any of the route is covered by CCTV , council tapes often get erased after a week!, so hurry.

you get her plates , you have her on various offences:

failing to report an accident within 24hs 3 points
Leaving the scene of an accident - 3 points
careless/dangerous driving - 3 points/6 points

Potentially a ban!, and as trev says ban = gang rape by insurance companies firstly for the ban AND the claim against her that you might be able to start.

AND you have a very good criminal damage case against her,

If those don't work chalk up to experience and NEVER EVER EVER let the person get away like that ie if you get shunted , sidestand down block the road call the cops. Or karma might get her, which is a bit on/off tbh , last BMW driver who tried to purposely knock me off went into another BMW,

(it was different for me when I got knocked off as I was sliding and he gunned it before I could get up and give chase).

Bon Chance!

He has fixed his ROVER already, why will he be worried about a CBR?

I skimmed over it rather than reading in depth

The number of posters on this forum who skim things then offer "advice" is fucking ridiculous. Good advice requires a thorough understanding of the pertinent facts Rolling Eyes

This is true, however all my points are still valid, you get shunted from behind? , stop take photos call the cops.

they do a runner you can still use the FoI to get CCTV footage

the only difference is that you are in a car which makes it even easier to prevent them from fleeing the scene, so you don't need to block them in via other means.
