The missus entered our names into some competition at Morrisons and we we won, we didn't come first but got a 120 quid voucher for a family portrait.

www.erastudios.co.uk

We get to spend 60 of it as studio time and 60 on a table top picture from them, which is on the website above.

Well chuffed. Thumbs Up

They'll probably try and screw more money out of you. It's just a marketing ploy.

Look at some of the products they offer on their site and look at their prices. They will try and entice you to get another of their products.

...heed my words!

Their £120 will probably get you a 6 x 4 print!.. and if you want the negative, you'll probably have to empty your pockets a little!

I wouldn't even bother going to collect this prize!

It is a marketting poly I've seen it loads of times, even big car dealerships do them , my boss went to buy a new Merc S Class , well my old boss , and thought he would show off his bling by taking me with him.

He was given a £500 voucher for photos, he went to photo session with his wife , the photo session cost £1250.

And the photographer wasn;t that good anyway I could have achieved the same with some white sheets , a 35mm camera and a few ASDA frames.

There are always some right miserable bastards about, we have a letter off them with the vouchers, stating that we can either use 60 for the table top picture or use it as money off another type, if we want the table top one, that is no problem, we will not be asked to spend any money.

So whether its a marketing ploy or not, its a free portrait of our new family either way, and we are going to take it.

I cannot see the point in moaning about something that is free, so what if they offer some other services, nobody can MAKE me say yes.

I got a similar thing for Christmas.

It's nice, so long as you stick to what is free.

My voucher got me a 7" x 5".

The 'upgrade' to a 8" x 10" cost £40.

The next upgrade was £300. Yes, 3 hundred.

Most of the 'schemes' and 'layouts' were over a grand. Neutral

Enjoy the session, make it clear you won't be sold anything else.

They will take loads of great poses to make you want more than one photo. Mad

I agree with what has already been said. It's all a con designed to get you into the studio.

Ok you can stick to the free stuff but be prepared for a very hard sell.

My missus and 2 of her mates went to one of these places, i tagged along for the day and all was going well.

They had loads of pictures done and they all looked really good.

Once you've spent most of the day in there they sit you down showing you all the nice photos they've taken. Thing is, if you want anything other than what your voucher entitles you too it will cost a small fortune.

The photos they took were really nice, so it's very tempting to just buy one or two extras, that turns into 3 or four extras, oh and a CD and a folder blah blah blah.

Now my missus had the cash at the time so brought the bloody lot, i wasn't impressed because she could have got me a set of Arlen Ness leathers, but anyway.

It will be a good day out but don't think they're doing you a favour by giving you this voucher. It's all designed to get money out of you, obviously you're going to be with the missus so be prepared for her to get all soppy when she sees the pics of you all and the kids.

Good luck! Very Happy

Oh, just thought i'd add, the bits my missus wanted ended up costing around 600 quid, the same with her 2 mates. All in, the shop got £1800 quid from the 3 of them. I was fuming but luckily my missus had the money, her mates ended up signing up for their payment plan! Shocked

As above - you're fine if you make sure you don't spend /anything/.

I applied for a job in one of these places and did half a day's work there, being offered the job at the end. I refused because I have some scruples.

The one I applied to got people in by having a 'guess the weight of the teddy' - no one won the teddy, everyone won the free session with a couple of free pics.

They specifically targeted the sort of people that were most likely to fall for spending some more dosh with them as you'd expect - it was just sad that it happened to be the people that spending their money on such the things was the worst idea for.

Like I said I am only going for the free one, we do want a proper family portrait on the wall but wont be spending any money on that until the baby is a little older.

You could probably hire a professional photographer for the day and get as many shots as you like for half the price these clowns charge!

I know you're only going for the free one, i was just saying like. Thumbs Up

A bloke at work won something similar. They took loads of shots, some of them were fantastic he said. Only trouble was the fantastic ones were bigger so you had to pay. You were only allowed a certain number of basic sized pics. The studiok chose what pics were what size. Result is you get a few mediocre shots or you pay big bucks for the good ones. He says when you see the fantastic shots of your first born you cant help but dig deep to pay for the shots for your family.

100% right. Been there done that. It's a rip off.

They line you up with a presentation of lots of nice pics of you, which you will really like. But you can't have any of them unless you buy one of their frames. Their frames start at about £400 and go up to £4000.

Then the hard sell starts.

Bin it or ebay it.
