or does it have to be a geared bike ?

The scooter i have is quite capable of doing national speed limit speeds and would be a doddle on u turns.

You wont be able to ride a geared bike if you do it on a scooter i heard, although i cant remember if the source was reliable. Maybe ask a bike school on the matter as they WILL know 100%.

Interesting. I can't see why it would be strictly wrong but I'm sure you'll tell me if I get the wrong end of the stick.

When your licence is revoked you can pass a test in any of the category's that have been taken off you. So if I get revoked due to speeding in a car you can take your bike test and get your full licence back for the bike and a car. Correct? So, how would this differ between auto and manual as long as you pass?

Simple answer, no you cant!

i took my test and the guy that did it before me did his test on his gilera runner 180 Shocked. Yes, the silly saussage thought it was a 125 when he bought it. Not only that, but his CBT expired when he did the test so he had to fork out for another certificate!

Passed the test and instructor made him fully aware he was limited to twist and goes or Aprilia's Shiver/Mana (cant remember which is auto)

I guess there is a difference between the question I thought was being asked and the one Colin actually asked.

I appreciate that you can't if you've never passed your test but what about if you had your license revoked due to points in the first two years?

it depends on what you mean
if you mean banned for speeding then you will get your licence back weather you take a bike test or not
if you mean revoked you will have to take a retest for a car again you wont just get given it back if you pass your bike test

I also thought that was the case.

My license has category A,K &P on it.

A=Motorcycle
K=Pedestrian Controlled
P=Moped

Taken from THISwebsite.

So my understanding would be if you have a vehicle classed as a Moped, you can take your test on it to regain all your previous entitlements.

According to THIS page the qualification for a moped is:

Quote:

What is a moped?

A moped is a motorcycle that has the following features:

* maximum design speed not exceeding 50 kilometres per hour (km/h) (about 31 miles per hour (mph)
* an engine capacity no greater than 50 cc
* it can be moved by pedals, if the moped was first used before 1 September 1977

So find a moped, take your test on it, regain your full motorcycle license?

I called the dvla up regarding revocation of your license. They did confirm, that you can pass ANY test and you will get all ur previous classes back (plus the extra class which u might have just taken).

so for a person who had a car license, had there license revoked. They can then go on to take a motorbike license. Once they pass, they will receive a license that entitles them to drive a car, and a bike.

In regards to the topic creator. Get a geared bike and pass your test! even if you don't want to ride a geared bike. Learn it, and pass it, and carry on back on your scooter if you want. You never know, one day you might want a geared bike.

Not what they have written on the letter.

Big Bad Col wrote:
on the letter i got, it said i can do the test again on one of the categories i had (bike and car) to get both back

its easier to pass bike test so i'll do that one

it also said that i couldnt do a test in another category and get mine back, like pass a 7.5T or class II test

Also, it is worth noting that being revoked is slightly different from being banned. You don't have to take an extended test, compared to someone that might have gotten banned from drink driving etc...

You have to take the test on something that you have already had a license for. Otherwise Id take the opportunity to get a 7.5T license. Its clearly set out on the letter I got. Someone who only had a car license, cant then take getting his license back as an opportunity to get a bike license by doing a bike test.

From what itchy has pointed out, i think i might be able to do the bike test on the scooter.

For cbt there may be a distinction between geared bikes and automatics, but for full license, i suspect that the rules werent set up thinking about scooters so i doubt that there is an auto bike test pass and a manual bike test pass.

I will intend to ride a geared full power bike in the future as i already have one, but it would be a bitch on u turns, and if i can avoid hiring a bike school bike for test day, i will.
