Hi all, im after some ideas.

i did a trackday at a very wet donington on monday and half way round my 2nd lap the bike started to badly missfire and eventually cut out and stopped. got the bike back to the garages and it started and ran fine as i was riding around the paddock. i thought it may have been the cdi getting wet so we sealed it a plastic bag but the same thing happened again in exactly the same place on track ( maybe just a fluke but it was going down craner which is fairly steep downhill section).

the bike is a cbr 600 steel frame (91 model i think) and its been on track before and has never missed a beat, however this is the first time its been in the wet.

the ideas i have come up with so far are

spray getting into the coils and ht leads
water getting into the electrics somwhere and shorting

i plan on changing the htleads and coils, re postiotion the cdi and coat the loom and connectors in wd40 or silicone on the connectors.

any advice would be much appreciated, cheers.

Wayne.

(soprry for the essay)

Bet if you change the HT leads and caps it'll be fine.

Cheap to try, and it's a big possibility that's your problem. Old lead's broken down, not such a good insulator, the wet lets the spark conduct straight to earth dropping a cylinder or 2.

Used ones will possibly be just as bad. Over time HT leads lose their insulating properties.

You can buy lengths of HT lead from most bike shops, they come on a roll. And plug caps are a couple of quid each.

Hopefully your eBay ones are better though.

oh right i didnt know that, for some reason i had the idea that new ones would be one of those ridiculously expensive things to replace for no apparent reason, cheers for that.

p.s. the mz racing looks like a blast, i was thinking about having a go but i think im going to go down the cb500 route.

wayne....I have read somewhere of the properties of wd40 and recommend not to use it on electrical items but ok for any mechanical applications....if I can find the item I will post it up.
