more carb icing (maby)

Hello all.

I was on my bike earlier and was following a line of traffic at about 60mph and i found that when i opened the throttle to finally start overtaking nothing happened for a few secs, this kept happening every time i opened the throttle almost like turbo lag or something.

is it carb icing? cos its pretty cold out there.

My bikes a srad 600 and its happened before on cold days.

surely your bike should run better in the cold, or mine does once its warm...

why not try a carb sock or something?
if its still doing it i spose...

Very possibly especially if the weather is damp, put some wynns dry fuel in and see if it makes a difference.

Could be, my GSXR750 suffered carb icing nearly every time the temperature fell below about 5 degrees, I found this quite fascinating considering the bike was a Canadian import.... I usually had the problem when i'd come off a motorway sliproad and slow down, the bike would gurgle as it starves of fuel and then cutout and i'd have to wait for the fuel lines to defrost before it'd start, you could see thick white frost under the tank on the fuel line. Pro FST is supposed to help, if i had the inclination I could've rigged up an additional coolant hose to run close to the fuel line to keep it warm.

I'm sure i remember reading about a mod that could be done to SRADs to ease the carb-icing problems. I recall it was a smallish plastic plate fitted to the intake ducts that partially blanked them off. Mine never really suffered from it, so i assumed mine had been done - it was just a right arse to start from cold in the cold or damp instead.
I'm buggered if i can source any evidence on the mod though, sure i saw it in a bike mag but can't remember which one, or it could just be that i just dreamt it (i have some very strange dreams).

I knew i wasn't dreaming! After a quick bit of googling i found this:

It mentions the blanking plate i said about, it also talks about carb heaters and Pro FST as possible solutions.

Cheers pro FST is on the shopping list

and duck tape will be easier on my budget .

Most bike dealers and Heine Gericke etc will sell Pro FST, it's fairly common. If not Halfords no doubt sell it in the bike section they have now, but might be more expensive knowing them.
