Friend has just bought a nearly new Buell (don't ask more about it, not seen it yet) is fretting about riding it because exhausts are marked not for road use and he thinks this invalidates insurance as an undeclared modification.

Is he being to cautious? - wouldn't stop me riding it but he is a bit nervous as it's actually his first big bike too.

I would be more worried about the amount of torque a novice rider has.

Nah it won't invalidate his insurance, LOADS of people do it.

In order for the insurance company not to cover I think they have to prove that the undeclared mod contributed to the accident, and they'll only pay out for a stock bike, so the exhaust system won't be included in the payout.

He could just ring up is company and ask how much it would cost to put on, with some it's nothing and other's it as little as £20.

Dont worry about a bloody exhaust. Be worried that the bike will turn the earth instead of going forward Thumbs Up

Do they not do BASIC physics where you come from?

If ALL the Buells in the world sat in 1st pushing full torque against the planet is would be = to ZERO.
Because at least ONE 98 R1 will be honking doon the road at warp factor Zillion in the opposite direction at the same time. Laughing

I asked an insurer about cans and cover and they had no specific policy on it ie no restriction.
Where as I do.
In my street/back yard you would have the end hammered shut and welded. Mad Laughing Mr. Green
