Bike stolen then recovered - Doh!

Hi folks,

Some crafty bugger climbed into my fully detatched, walled, security-gated house and stole my SV650 two weeks ago.

Presuming that the determined buggers were profesionals I banked on the bike not turning up, so bought myself an R6 and started waiting on the cheque to pay it off.

Well, the stupid buggers only went and rode 500m down the road and parked the bike, the same night they stole it, in somebodies parking bay. It's been there ever since - No damage.

The police picked it up and did the courtesey of getting a private scam artist, er recovery company, to tow it miles away - instead of just asking me to collect it. £105 recovery fee, wtf?

Seriously pissed off with the police - common sense would dictate I could have just picked it up.

As for the criminals, the gearbox was upside down/race pattern, I think 500m stuck in first gear got them thinking it was fucked. I'm a bit annoyed to say the least because now I'll have to sell the R6 and pay to repair the SV.

Unless I discover the SV's engine is seized ofcourse Perhaps I've suddenly remembered I was in the middle of changing the oil when they stole it? Hmm.

ahh well, at least you got it back, i was devastated when my little 125 got nicked.

Much better now though as ive got a bigger bike.

Nah that sucks hope it all is sorted out, does seem mighty odd that they would just park it up for you. Any idea why?

Alarmed or data tagged? maybe they thought 'ahh shit its got XYZ we might as well leave it'

As I said the gear box is upside down (ie you press down to go up gears) so I reckon they stalled it a bunch of times, got confused, looked conspicuous and thought "fuckit!".

Still took the time to unstrap my tank bag and take it with them though...

Well folks - A close inspection of the bike reveals some amusing clues!

Firstly, the gear lever connecting rod (that leads from the lever to the gearbox axle thing) is completely bent, so much so that pushing up on the lever just results in the lever going up to a vertical position! Obviouslly they were so convinced that pushing up harder would get them into a new gear that they put maximum effot into it.

Secondly, they presumeably got so angry with this that they started punching the dashboard - the brake resevoir is broken off its mounting and the clocks are wobbly as hell!

Other than that it doesnt look like they did any burnouts or anything. Its very muddy on the backend but no rubber fleck and the tire is immaculate still.

Slightly concerned about gearbox damage though...

Oh, and the cheeky gits had the nerve to put the steering lock on when they parked it! Now I'm fucked as they have my only key...

They broke into my house and stole the key, along with my helmet and loads of other gear.

I don't know what to do about the lock. I need to inspect the bike and total up the damage as this may still be an insurance job.

Ideally I'd like the gearbox looked at, and I don't think the insurers could argue - if I'm beltng down a motorway next week then suddenly the 'box seizes they would have hell to pay.
